JACK RIVERS & THE DETOURS At the Sand Box RARE pvt autographed LP country VG++ Shipping Info   Description Rare vintage private press lp: JACK RIVERS & THE DETOURS - AT THE SAND BOX in Honolulu, Hawaii (Sandisland Road) - AUTOGRAPHED BY JACK RIVERS on the back cover (confirm the autograph by searching Google for "Jack Rivers autographed 1959" - an old auction will come up with a photo of a 45 with matching handwriting). This record is extremely rare! It has a photo and biographical info on the back cover, naming the band members (vocalist Warren Johnson, yodeler Shelia Tilton, and steel guitar player Sunny Estes). Released in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Though this is definitely a country western record (not rockabilly), any collector of Rivers' catalog will not want to miss out on this - there are no past auction listings for it that I can find, and no copies currently available for sale online.

Tracks include: YOU PASSED (LIKE A SHIP IN THE NIGHT), WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT, STEEL GUITAR RAG, DETOUR, HEARTACHES BY THE NUMBER, IF YOU WOULD ONLY BE MINE, IT ISN'T RIGHT, WHISKEY RIVER, HE TAUGHT ME TO YODEL, SKID ROW, LITTLE OL' WINE DRINKER ME, SEND ME THE PILLOW THAT YOU DREAM ON.

Some biographical info on this c&w / rockabilly legend: Jack Lewis (later Jack Rivers) began recording in the early 1930's; by the 1950's he was a key player in the Seattle - Tacoma country scene; he was the brother of famed hillbilly bandleader and western film star, "Texas Jim" Lewis (the Lone Star Cowboys). In 1950, the brothers settled in Seattle where Jim became host of KING-TV's kiddie show, 'Sheriff Tex's Safety Junction', and Jack Rivers became the host of the local beer-sponsored hillbilly music program, 'Rainier Ranch'. Several of his scarce 1950's rockabilly 45's sell for over $100, such as "Call on Me", "I'm So Lonely", and "My Baby Don't Love Nobody". "Detour", included on this LP, made the top ten back in 1947.

Condition: VG++/VG (vinyl has some soft surface scuffing and short minimal hairlines - a strong VG+; labels are clean; the jacket has some ball-point pen scribbling on the cover but is otherwise very clean with minimal edge and corner rubbing).

REGARDING IMAGE QUALITY: Some of our older listings have images of poor quality; a few months ago Ebay changed their image size policies, and I was forced to automatically enlarge the images for all of last years' remaining items, which caused them to be grainy and blurry.
INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS - WE SHIP WORLDWIDE - please contact me prior to bidding so I can determine Airmail shipping rates for you, and we are always happy to combine multiple items.

WE NEVER USE STOCK PHOTOS - all images are of actual items. WE ALMOST ALWAYS USE MULTIPLE IMAGES. Please see our other Ebay auctions for many used, odd, rare and collectible books and records, paper & ephemera, and more. Thank you!
