Offering for sale, from my personal collection, an original 1964 record LP pressed in 250 copies only and a mega rare jazz album, possibly the rarest jazz album in existence, as follows:

ARTIST: J. R. MONTEROSE (born in Detroit, Michigan, Frank Anthony Monterose, Jr., 1927-1993, the two J.R. initials being derivated from Jr.), jazz tenor saxophonist, composer and bandleader, active mainly in the 50's-60's era.

ALBUM TITLE: "J. R. MONTEROSE IN ACTION" (also known as "IN ACTION"-abridged title).

Original 1964 pressing on STUDIO 4 Records (Rock Island, Illinois), catalog no. SS 100, STEREO, made in USA. Special anti-static plastic sleeve (replacing the original plain paper one).

CONDITION: front cover is between Exc. to NM (having a few tiny creases by the spine plus both upper and bottom edges; no wear ring; no shelf wear; no cutouts; full laminated foil on it), back cover is between Exc. to NM (having one minor crease by the upper left corner plus a few minor imperfections here and there, hardly visible), vinyl is NM (possibly MINT). Record was cleaned and tested, playing as close as possible to MINT (with strong and clean signal). Soft material cover.

PERSONNEL: J.R. Monterose (tenor sax, leader) with THE JOE ABODEELY TRIO (Joe Abodeely, drums; Dale Oehler, piano; Gary Allen, bass). Unique jazz quartet from the history featured only on this album. Saxophonist with SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM issued in 1956 (on Blue Note label).

MUSIC: early modern jazz based on bebop genre, cool jazz sub-genre rendered in a ballad style fused with occasional mid-tempo breaks. 6 tracks, as follows: Waltz for Claire/ I should care/ That you are/ Red devil/ Lover man/ Herky Hawks. Includes 4 original tracks written by Monterose. Studio recordings. Recording engineer and producer Jim Sotos.

SPECIAL REMARKS AND ALBUM HISTORY:
1. Album was pressed in 250 copies and sold only at the cloakroom of the Abodeely's "The Tender Trap" jazz nite-club from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
2. Album was never sold in any store or via mail-order.
3. It is unknown how many copies were sold at "The Tender Trap" night club and how many remained unsold but it is estimated that only a handful of playable copies are still in existence plus in a collectability grade status.
4. The album was evaluated in November 2009 at around $3,000 for a copy in playable condition and in Exc.-NM status overall.
5. The undersigned is the second holder of this mega rare jazz LP acquired from the original family -two generations- that relocated several years ago from Iowa to Connecticut. The original holder knew personally Joe Abodeely who offered him this copy as a gift.

THERE WERE 3 COPIES OF THIS ALBUM SOLD VIA EBAY, FOR THE FOLLOWING PRICES: $2,025, $1,704 and $810 (first two copies in Exc. condition overall and VG+ condition for the third copy).

THE COPY OFFERED FOR SALE HERE IS IN BETTER OVERALL SHAPE THAN ALL ABOVE THREE COPIES, POSSIBLY ONE OF THE VERY FEW COPIES IN TOP CONDITION IN EXISTENCE IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

THIS IS A MEGA RARE JAZZ ALBUM THAT BESIDES IT'S RARITY IT CONTAINS SUPERB MELLOW BEBOP MUSIC RENDERED BY MONTEROSE IN HIS UNIQUE BALLAD-COOL STYLE WITH TOP ACCOMPANIMENT FROM THE SPECIAL JOE ABODEELY TRIO. THE RECORDINGS ARE VERY NATURAL AND REALISTIC WITH DEEP AND WIDE SOUNDSTAGE, SIMPLY SPECTACULAR.
