Please note that all grading is visual and not aural. All items currently listed are from our warehouse and are stored in a climate-controlled environment. Our items have never been played. Many of them are promotional copies. All of our items are stored separately in plastic sleeves to protect them from age and wear as best as possible.

GRADING STANDARDS: Conservative grading standards are used in addition to our own personal grades that capture those "in-between" conditions that we feel are important distinctions (listed in RED). We will indicate whether these items were visually graded or play graded, and include any pertinent comments in the NOTES field.

VINYL GRADING:

  • Near Mint (NM) A nearly perfect record and our highest grade. Records are shiny with no visible defects, writing, stickers or other markings not appearing on the label, or any "spindle marks". If played, it will do so with no surface noise.
  • Near Mint Minus (NM-) A slightly lower grade than the NM grade because the record may have any one of the listed visible defects found in a Near Mint record.
  • Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) This is the higher end of a VG+ grade and except for something minor would be a NM-/NM record. It will have fewer of the listed defects found in a VG+ record.
  • Very Good Plus (VG+) A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Records may also have slight warps that do not affect the sound. The record may show minor signs of handling, such as telltale marks around the center area.
  • Very Good (VG) Many of the defects listed for a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound, causing a momentary skip or an isolated pop. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached.
  • Good (G) A record in good condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping, although it will have more severe audible surface noise and scratches than a VG record. Visible groove wear may also be evident, and labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached.
  • Good Minus (G-) This is our lowest grade reserved for those "harder-to-find" records. A record in Good Minus condition will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear may be evident. Occasional "non-repeating" skips may also be heard. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached.

COVER GRADING:

  • Near Mint (NM) A nearly perfect cover. It will have no creases, folds, seam splits, or any signs of human handling. The cover will have no cutout markings of any kind, and it also will have no ring wear.
  • Near Mint Minus (NM-) A slightly lower grade than NM grade because cover may have any one of the above listed visible defects found in a Near Mint cover.
  • Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) This is the higher end of a VG+ grade and except for something minor would be a NM-/NM cover. It will have fewer of the listed defects found in a VG+ cover.
  • Very Good Plus (VG+) A Very Good Plus cover will show minor signs of wear, but like the vinyl was handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a seam split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable location. The cover might be marred by a cutout marking (cut corner, small hole punch or a cut in the spine) or promotional stamp. There might also be some slight signs of handling, such as light creasing at the corners, or "bend” creasing at various spots. There may also be slight signs of wear at the most vulnerable areas and even a tiny bit of ring wear.
  • Very Good (VG) Many of the defects found in a VG+ cover will be more pronounced in a VG cover. It will have more signs of wear, such as minor seam splits at the bottom center, the middle of the spine, and at the upper & lower right, where the record is removed from the cover. These seam splits will still not be overwhelming. Also, there may be minor writing, tape, or a sticker which also detract. Other signs of handling will be more evident, ring wear, for example, which affect the entire cover to a minor degree.

ADDITIONAL PACKAGING & SHIPPING DETAILS

All records are professionally packaged with appropriate padding in custom record boxes. Records are sleeved and removed from their jacket to prevent any seam splitting. The record and jacket are then put into a new poly album sleeve. Double albums are treated the same way, with the second LP put between the inside of the gatefold jacket.  A modest surcharge is added to the actual shipping cost to defray a portion of the packaging expenses.

A shipping discount is available when buying more than one item. Feel free to e-mail me for shipping quotes on multiple purchases, or simply purchase items and wait for an invoice with combined items and shipping charges.
