Description

You are bidding on a copy of the rare 1963 vinyl LP record album titled INTRODUCING THE BEATLES.

It is the much more difficult to find "version one" with the songs LOVE ME DO and P.S. I LOVE YOU.

This is the original album released on Vee Jay (LP1062).  It has all of the evidence of authenticity that I am aware of:  sharp printing; less than one inch dead wax w/Audio Matrix stamp (and another tiny stamp that I cannot decipher); 63-3402 & 3402 and 63-3403 on each respective side (plus the single letter "A" on each side); George's shadow; album title and band name above the spindle hole, rainbow circle with gradual color change; oval Vee Jay logo, etc.

There is also a blue ink stamp (the letter "C") above the VJLP 1062 in the upper right back corner (see photo).  I remember these odd stamps showing up on many albums from the 50s and the 60s.  I'm not sure of the significance but I believe it may be pricing information for the retailer.   There is also a "very small" red stamp of some sort to left of the word "Boys" along the left back edge.

The brief story on how I obtained the album:  A former girlfriend gave it to me as a gift in 1977.  She told me that she purchased the album new in the early or    mid-60s.  That's her small bit of writing/scribbling on the front (next to the "The" near the upper left corner) and the back cover (the word "slow" is written above "Do You Want" and then a small squiggle at the end of that line).

I am not a professional record collector/grader, but I would visually grade the vinyl as VG (possibly VG+).   There is surface wear and surface marks but no deep scratches.   There is surprisingly minimal evidence of play around the spindle hole.  I played the record a few times back in 1977 and, although there was the expected surface noise in the quieter passages, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it sounded.   Based on a 29-year-old memory only, I would play rate the record as VG++.  Like a lot of the older, thicker vinyl it plays better than it looks (and it doesn't look all that bad).

The jacket has some surface wear (see photo).  There is a inch seam split at the bottom right corner and some to-be-expected wear along the bottom seam.   There is also a very small 1/4 inch seam split at the top right corner.  The left seam edge where text is printed (Vee Jay/Introducing The Beatles/Vee Jay/LP1062) is very nice.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  On closer inspection I noticed that the one inch seam split in the bottom right corner stops and then starts up again for about four inches - from the middle of the jacket all the way to the other (bottom left) corner.   In other words the bottom edge of the jacket is more severely worn than originally described.  My apologies for missing this in the original item description.  Thanks!
