Description

Very Very Rare to Find Original 1969 UK EMI Columbia ***Mono*** 1st Pressing 'Live' by Ian Carr & Don Rendell. In Impossible Stunning **Near Mint*** Vinyl Condition!!! Complete with 1st Press E. J. Day Front Laminated Flipback Mono Sleeve & Original EMI Columbia Inner Sleeve!!! A Mega Rarity!!!

This is a real rarity - in all my years collecting vinyl I have only ever seen two UK Stereo 1st pressings of this record, but never a Mono copy. You are bidding on a true rarity here; a Near Mint vinyl copy of the awesome 'Live' by Don Rendell & Ian Carr. This is a legendary British Jazz classic that has to be heard to be believed - it is one of the warmest, cleanest recorded live Jazz albums I have ever heard, it sounds like nothing else. As such it is in very high demand today so bid high and bid early to avoid disappointment. Like I mentioned above, this is a super-rare record to find in Stereo - but it is absolutely impossible to find in Mono; it just does not show up here in the UK, and I can say without doubt that you will never see another copy cleaner than this. The vinyl is Near Mint!!! Despite very clearly growing out of the American jazz tradition—and despite also a sustained enthusiasm for Balkan, Indian, African and Middle Eastern music—there is something unmistakably but somehow indefinably British about Rendell's and Carr's music. It is instantly accessible to anybody not familiar with Jazz and even has a very cool Jazzy 1960's spy movie vibe to it. I highly recommend this as the ultimate starting point to anybody interested in getting into Jazz. In fact, many Prog. fans will have heard of Carr through his Vertigo side-project Nucleus, and his inclusion on the 1970's Vertigo roster pretty much says it all about his brand of jazz; it is the perfect Rock-Prog-Jazz crossover point for anyone looking to get into Jazz but not knowing where to start. Whoever wins this will have something not only seriously rare - but very cool indeed... Good luck!

1st Press Matrix:

Side 1 - XAX 3780-1U

Side 2 - XAX 3780-1U

The 1st press Caribou Records labels are in stunning Near Mint condition! They have NO Tears, NO Peeling/Lifting, NO Scribbles, NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! In fact I can see only the faintest trace of a solitary spindle line on each side!!! You only have to look at these old matt black Columbia labels for them to get a spindle line, so it would seem that this record has only been played once or at most twice ever before!!! The gramophone rims containing the all important 1st press matrix's are also mint!

The disc itself is also in absolutely pristine  Near Mint condition!!! It has a beautiful 'factory pressed' sheen with NO scratches, NO Blemishes, NO Dullness/ Groovewear and NO Warping!!! It is simply stunning - and has just one or two very light almost invisible paper lines - simply caused by removing the record from its inner sleeve. Please remember that our records are not over-graded at all.  It plays superbly, which is no mean feat considering it has some very silent musical passages throughout. You can just about hear some very light static over these passages as you'd expect. It has absolutely NO loud pops, skipping or jumping!!!

The Earliest 1st Press Mono E. J. Day Flipback sleeve is superb with a beautiful factory laminate sheen, NO Tears, NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!  It is completely blemish free!!! The sleeve lies perfectly FLAT with virtually NO RING WEAR and a MINT strong spine w/ MINT legible spine text! The thickly laminated front side has NO yellowing or discolouration of the white part of the sleeve. The un-laminated white back also has NO discolouration and NO grubbiness whatsoever - very rare for these 1960's flipbacks.  It also has NONE of the normal laminate lifting/cracking around the spine, and virtually no laminate creases - just a handful of very insignificant ones coming out from the edges.  This superb example easily grades as EX at the very least - it has no major flaws at all! The LP comes with its Original  'Patents applied for' EMI Advertisement sleeve - which is Mint!!! Please check out our feedback and bid with confidence as this is a no reserve auction with a very low starting price!

I will be selling my entire UK 1st Press collection of 1960/70's Psych/Prog./Rock & Folk over the coming months, most of these records are in Mint- condition and have 3-figure book prices. All will be listed here on eBay UK at a £2.99 start with No Reserve - bookmark my pages. Like the vast majority of my collection, this record has been archived upright in a thick outer PVC sleeve in a smoke & damp free environment for the best part of 20-30 years!

All my records have No reserve, a Low Start and No Surcharges!

If you see faint lines or shadows on the playing surfaces it is just the reflection of either my blind pulls or telephone wires outside the window*** HJ

Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up  - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards.  If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...

Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.

We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
