Description

Artist: Howlin' Wolf Title: Howlin' Wolf Label/Number: Chess LP-1469 (M) Jacket condition: VG+ Record condition: VG Notes: This is one of those records that I sell occasionally that I classify as "rough but rare". The cover is in decent condition but does show a fair amount of ring wear and seam and corner wear. The classic rocking chair photo on the front still looks good, though, and the notes along with photo of Howlin' Wolf on the back aren't bad. The labels are the original black and silver Chess versions. They show some wear and have a number of spindle marks. The vinyl has lots of scuffs and scratches and qualifies for only a grade of VG. It plays with some surface noise and some pops and crackles but is generally pretty listenable. OCut 4 on Side 1 (Who's Been Talkin') has a pretty significant scratch and skips in several places. The scratch carries over slightly into Cut 5 (Wang-Dang-Doodle) which has a few skips at the beginning of the song. As noted above, the record is rough but it is rare and features some classic blues. Grading: Grading is usually only visual unless there are obvious problems that need to be checked out.   I did play this one as noted above. I use Goldmine standards with a VG++ added for items NOT QUITE up to M-. I try to be conservative and grade as though I were buying the record.  Mono (M) or Stereo (S) is noted after catalog number. Don't hesitate to e-mail questions.   Mailing and costs: Domestic shipping is via USPS, media mail. I do require delivery confirmation as a protection for both myself and the buyer. This is a cheaper alternative to requiring insurance on each package. Of course, insurance will still be optional at a buyer's request and expense. I also add $1.50 to cover the cost of a new custom record mailer and pads. Therefore, the total handling fees are $2.25--$1.50 for the mailers/pads and $.75 for delivery confirmation. Overseas shipping on purchases under $50.00 may be sent by USPS First Class Mail International but I will upgrade at the buyer's request. Orders for more than $50.00 will need to be by Priority Mail International. This provides added protection for both the buyer and for me. The price will be the actual shipping costs plus the $1.50 noted above for the mailer and pads.

I always mail in a poly sleeve with the record outside the jacket. If there's an original inner sleeve I also remove the record from that and put it in a plain sleeve for mailing. That way, there are no seam splits on either the jacket or the sleeve due to any handling in the mail.

As always, multiple purchases can be combined to save mailing costs.
