Take It Easy - Hopeton Lewis

Hopeton Lewis is credited by most as having created the "Rock Steady" sound. The story goes that the summer of 1966 was especially hot in Kingston, Jamaica. The young singer Hopeton Lewis was trying to record a ska piece but it was way to hot in the studio. At one point Hopeton called out to the band "It's too hot, let's slow it down." The musicians played the song again at a slower tempo and Lewis sang over it. After the song was over one of the musicians said, "Hey man, that was rock steady."

The song "Take It Easy" was soon released and Rock Steady music was born.

I don't know if this is the original Merritone pressing but it might be. It is certainly very old. The cover shows some age and edge damage. But there is only light ring wear and the cover image is in nice condition (see pictures). There is a single signiture in ball point pen on the back. There is no writing on the labels. The vinyl has some surface marks and plays with a bit of background and is overall in VG condition.
