Description
In late1949, Country singer Hank Williams already had a # 1 hit for MGM records. To capitalize on this rising star's popularity a radio show was produced for syndication featuring Hank, Hank's wife Audry and Hank's band The Drifting Cowboys. The program was called The Health And Happiness Show which consisted of eight 15 minute shows all recorded in a two day period in October of 1949. Sandwiched in between the opening theme of "Happy Rovin' Cowboy:" and the closer "Sally Goodin'" are 3-4 songs on each program including such classics as "Wedding Bells", "Lovesick Blues" etc. Also included are songs not released at that time on MGM or Sterling such as "Bile Them Cabbage Down" and "A Mansion On The Hill". ALL SONGS WERE SPECIALLY RECORDED FOR THESE DISCS AND ARE DIFFERENT VERSIONS FROM THE MGM/STERLING RECORD RELEASES THAT WERE ISSUED AT THAT TME. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL 1949 RCA SYNDICATION DISCS FROM THOSE RECORDING SESSIONS and feature the complete series (8 shows) on four discs. These historically important discs are fascinating not only for the music but for the stage banter between Hank, Audry and the band. The discs appear to be in beautiful shiny near Mint Minus condition but I have not played them. There is some light DJ writing on the labels most of which is not in the label print.
