Description

I’M LEAVING YOU
Howlin' Wolf

What would you rather have, a blues singer named Chester Burnett, or Howling Wolf? Yeah, the name really was something. At the time of his record in late 1951, he was still in his vital years, only 41 years old and full of growl.

He was 6' 3" and 275, and still he was larger than life. Howlin' Wolf left behind a legacy of recordings for Chess that not only changed blues in the '50s, but changed the shape of rock music in the '60s and '70s too. Even on a bad day he could produce a pair of sides that were better than anything recorded by anyone in the decades since.

This single is from Howlin' Wolf's deep songbook, and a particularly potent tune called “I’m Leaving You.” It was new in November of 1958, and is flipped here with “Change My Way.”
