I like Horace Silver. I like 70's soul stylings, even sometimes in a jazz context. I like lyrics that encourage positivity, environmental responsibility, and equality between the sexes (and I guess health food too, even though it's not my thing so much). I like Andy Bey's voice. But I don't know how well all these things go together. It's easy to say that in these cynical days, well removed from the Aquarian Age, there's little to connect with the hippie-ish uplift and (completely secular) gospel feel of this record, but I think it's deeper than that - after all, I can still connect with music of this time like Funkadelic, or even the recently reissued and similar (though decidedly non-secular) Mary Lou's Mass. I think my problems here would have to boil down to the music, truth be told. If this kicked like Funkadelic, if this rocked, swung, and moved me like Mary Lou, I think that my quibbles would be minor indeed. But the songs are totally given to the vocalists, who all sound fine and lyrically interesting, but the music is pushed to the background, and even the instrumental cuts merely mark themselves as interesting breathers between vocal pieces, and not fascinating or compelling. I want to like this record very much for what it's trying to do, but I sadly must conclude that for me at least it's stuck in a time capsule without the reach to touch people today. Interesting in the extreme, but not as fun a listen as it should/could be. (Post script: On another listen, I have to say that some of these songs have a weird charm. I envision them as features on "Sesame Street" or "The Electric Company" - by which I do not mean an insult. These would probably be great for kids (K-3 or so) to teach responsibility, health consciousness, environmentalism, etc. But I don't have kids. -- WELL, YOU SHOULD GO MAKE SOME -- OP. ED.)

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
