Song For My Father - Horace Silver RARE!! Original First US Pressing Near Mint!! Includes the old original paper inner sleeve!
Blue Note 4185 (MONO) with New York USA address, with RVG stamped in dead wax and the "ear" (P) for Plastylite - no Deep Groove as that would no longer occur by 1964 when this was first issued.
I've never seen a vintage 1st pressing of this or any record in this fine condition.
The music is of course superb and was made during a transition of band members so two distinct groups are represented here. This is the classic recording which introduced Joe Henderson as the new saxophonist in the Horace Silvers Quintet replacing Junior Cook as well as Carmel Jones replacing long-time member Blue Mitchell. A very young Roger Humphries replaced drummer Roy Brooks. Teddy Smith replaced Gene Taylor as bassist.
Vinyl: NM - visually checked under strong lighting and play tested. There are only very light inner sleeve scuff marks of no consequence to the audio at all. Barely any surface noise even between tracks, certainly none audible during the music. An exceptionally beautiful playing LP.
Cover: NM - nearly flawless and clean. Front cover is clear and distinctive with virtually no sign of age or wear and the back cover is very clean and bright with only a faded stamp from the record store where I got it from many many years ago. It was carefully shelved and kept in a protective plastic outer sleeve. Spines are perfect with no edge wear or cracks or splits. Clean clear lettering on the left hand side spine too. (see photos!!) Good clean corners with only the slightest sign of wear - no heavily bumped or crushed corners.
I will not accept returns on this item because of several times I sent out an item in near-perfect condition only to receive it back with damaged covers! Only will I accept a return request if it was damaged in shipping!
I am extremely careful when preparing any vinyl LP for shipping and it is packaged carefully with the disc shipped outside the jacket/cover and protected by many layers of foam sheets, cardboard pieces for extra protection and corner protectors as well as plenty of bubble-wrap. It will arrive in exactly the condition it was sent in.
