DG LP 16132 (10”/Germany)

This legendary 10” release (1961) on the DG label features four (4) works by German electronic music pioneer Herbert Eimert (1897-1972). In 1951 Eimert created the Studio for Electronic Music, Cologne and was director until 1962, followed by Stockhausen. Eimert was a major influence in Germany on electronic music during the 1950’s & 60’s. From the liner notes “ Electronic music is not produced on conventional instruments. It exists only on a sound track (tape or disc) from which the sound is reproduced, amplified and distributed over a loudspeaker system. Electronic appliances used in normal broadcasting are the standard equipment of the Electronic Music Studio”. Etude on Sound Mixtures: (1954) Sound Mixtures are complex soundwaves with non-harmonic partial note intervals. Each tone consists of 9 partial notes. Five of these notes have been transposed to 9 different degrees of the scale and proportionately distributed in 9 different divisions of time. Five Compositions: (1955/56) No. 1 uses exceptionally and instrumental motive, in this case a four-voice twelve-tone canon. This is one of the earliest melodic-linear twelve-tone compositions. No. 2 is a modulation of a simple structure. In No. 3 hard, grating sounds and vibration tones are contrasted. No. 4 consists of a serial structure with interjected point figures. No. 5 is a permutation variation with the “theme” at the end. Chimes: (1953/54) Twice 60 sounds of bell-like quality (using calculation tables compiled by J. Biehle, an expert on the acoustic properties of bells) are arranged in series of increasing and decreasing density”. Record is in NEAR MINT+ condition (appears unplayed) and jacket is VG++ with the slightest bit of wear (almost NM). An essential recording & for anyone interested in electronic or experimental music, don’t miss it!
