Jerry Yester - who was a member of Lovin' Spoonful - and Judy Henske, the uncrowned Elektra label folk diva were married in the fall of 1967 and immediately went into honeymoon, i.e. deep hibernation. They woke up only briefly, in 1969 and 1970 respectively, to record two brutally rare psych/folk albums for Frank Zappa's fledgling "Straight Label". No wonder the two albums - of which I have the first one ("Farewell to Aldebaran") here, are so rare. They are the masterpieces of intricate,delicate musicianship, subtle and haunting melody and vocal harmony that transcends even the romantic age of the late 1960's. While it is difficult to tell who is backing the two on this album (musician credits were not provided on the original cover), I think it is safe to assume that the same backing band that plays on the two Tim Buckley's "Straight" albums also does the same for Yester and Henske, which probably explains the dark, moody, foreboding and almost otherworldly atmosphere. A soft psych/folk classic, not to be missed. With the lobotomized types running the recording industry these days,  the odds  of this album ever appearing on legitimate, good-sounding CD are about zero, or below. Fare thee well, oh, Aldebaran.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record comes in a poly-lined stock inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has some visible ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 (front side) and 5 (back side).

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the top seam

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam and spine

-         Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam

-         Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged / bent.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams (yet)

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
