Stylistically, Interface works as a rock album, sometimes close to krautrock and progressive, but mostly an avant-prog one. Think King Crimson's Starless and Bible Black mixed with Kraftwerk's first few albums or even Can. But seriously, no matter how many bands I name, it's quite hard to really describe Interface. It's just something so great and simple yet so conceptually complex that I doubt it can be described so much without sounding cheesy. Just know that if you like any of the avant-prog movements, you'll love this one, or even if you like any ‘70s prog rock.
Where Heldon is groundbreaking is in the mix of electronic rhythms and atonal guitar leads, so much that it wouldn't be surprising to find Erkki Kurenniemi and Robert Fripp in the lineup. Lead after lead, rhythm after rhythm, it's crazy that Heldon still finds a way to surprise you again. When you think you already know the album, Interface’s ritualistic drumming hits you in the face, and if it doesn't, then the first few polyrhythms will...or maybe the Fripp-like sustained first lead on that song... or even the heavy riff after that.
That's what makes Heldon groundbreaking: they are always trying to find ways to surprise you. And really, even if they didn't, they are talented technically, with greatly varied drumming, some of the best guitar playing avant-prog has witnessed, and some serious electronic walls of sound. They really do cover all the bases. Well, except the vocal part, since they don't have a vocalist. But you won't need it, as you'll be way too busy drooling over the fantastic everything else.
Interface is an avant-prog masterpiece. Even if you’ve only taken the time to read these last lines, make sure to get it.
Heldon is a French electronic rock band created in 1974. The name of the band was taken from the 1972 novel The Iron Dream by Norman Spinrad.
Like its predecessor Schizo, it is above all the group of guitarist Richard Pinhas who released a large number of albums under his own name.
He has worked with numerous collaborators among which musicians of the band Magma as well as philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze (of whom he was a student) and writers such as Norman Spinrad and Maurice Dantec (the Schizotrope project).
Influenced by the work of Robert Fripp and Brian Eno, the music of Richard Pinhas and Heldon is sui generis and innovative and has in its turn greatly influenced the field of electronic rock.
The first releases under the moniker Schizo and later Heldon were entirely self produced and self distributed.
MY GRADING SYSTEM / MON SYSTÈME DE GRADATION :
I can not listen to all the records I'm selling, this gradation is only based on visual judgement. I have rather tendency deliberately to exaggerate this gradation, however, in case of doubt, do not hesitate to ask your questions before bidding.
Sealed, never opened or played, new in original package.
Near perfect copy, played only a few times. At worst it may have one or two insignificant flaws. This is the highest grade I give for a non-sealed (used) record.
Clean copy, slight surface marks/hairlines, cover has minor defaults.
More surface marks, minor flaws, or cover wear, minor edge wear (cover). Nothing serious but is not graded EX because of few minor defaults
Played a lot, will show signs of handling, has numerous slight surface marks (hairlines) but no jumps or sticks. Cover wear (light ring wear, heavier corner or edge wear on cover)
Used record, played a lot, has marks, few scratches, some crackling while playing and but no jumps or sticks. Still quite listenable. Cover may have heavy corner, edge wear or split seams
Played a lot and more (but still playable), lot of scratches, crackles a lot while playing, may have jump or sticks and cover is damaged...so not so good ! This record must be very rare to be proposed in this state !!!
