Bennie Ross "Hank" Crawford, Jr. (21 December 1934 - 29 January 2009) was an American R&B, hard bop, jazz-funk, soul jazz alto saxophonist, arranger and songwriter. Crawford was musical director for Ray Charles before embarking on a solo career, during which he released many well-regarded albums for jazz record labels CTI Records and then Milestone Records.

RICHIE COLE prodigiously talented, artist an alto player gifted with a stunning personal presence on his instrument.

Richie Cole Hank Crawford Quintet/Bossa International is a recording from the 1987 Summer European Jazz Festival Tour. Pardon the pun, but that is simply one of the ways I can put the superlatives together on this offering by Cole/Crawford and band recorded in Nimes, France in 1987. It is tasty jazz done in jam session style--everyone gets a solo. I am much impressed with Emily Remler's guitar work on the Cole/Crawford composition "Fantasy Blues"...Victor Jones on drums and Marshall Hawkins on bass completes the quintet. I cannot say if they ever recorded anything with each other again--and, if they have in whole or part, please inform me--but I'm awfully glad they recorded this. I love the heck out of it.
