Baron Elmo proudly presents three gorgeous slabs of high quality vinyl from alt-rock godheads GUIDED BY VOICES: Bee Thousand: The Director's Cut, issued in 2004 by the Scat label, now unavailable in this format. This is a massive expansion and tenth anniversary reinvention of GBV's classic Bee Thousand LP – the band's eighth album proper, and the one that put them over big time in the indie scene after a decade of obscurity, scoring reams of critical praise along the way. Guided by Voices had been churning out great music by the truckload for years by 1994, but Bee Thousand added that little something extra that pushed them over the top into rock Valhalla. What most folks didn't know, though, was that frontman Bob Pollard had already assembled and "shitcanned" five other versions of this album (one of them a double lp) before settling on the final track lineup. This mighty set compiles the complete goods from the Bee Thousand sessions, in addition to several rare B-sides and demos… cramming a full fifty-five tracks onto six sides of vinyl. Despite their move to a bigger label, GBV chose not to opt for big-budget audio for these sessions, sticking to the rough, home-recorded and utterly explosive sound that defines their best recordings. Over a decade later, Bee Thousand still holds up as one of Guided By Voices' eternal classics – and this staggering set will give you the full measure of that indie-rock gem. This title is currently available on disc, it is true… but there's no way that a mere CD can equal the tactile sensation of cradling this hefty package in your trembling hands, packed in a thick foldout jacket. This set is in beautiful shape – it was purchased new by Baron Elmo, the records were only played once to copy onto cassette, and the jacket has been stored in a protective sleeve ever since the removal of its plastic wrap.
