Genesis Abacab Ultra Rare & Possibly Unique U.K. LP. Look!.
It’s time to let this go! I’ve spent the last 40 years trying to find another one or confirm its existence beyond my copy… I’ve failed!
This is, at first glance, a standard U.K. first pressing of the Abacab LP - Charisma Records CBR 102. Embossed single sleeve, picture inner sleeve and picture labels to the records. The record is a U.K. Townhouse mastered A//2 / B//3 matrix first pressing. The sleeve and inner are printed in the U.K.
But wait! Look at the main photo in my listing. - In the U.K., Abacab was released in a choice of four different colour combinations, usually identified by the main colour block at the top of the sleeve design - blue, orange, red and yellow. This copy should be the grey/yellow/magenta/cyan sleeve. But instead it is grey/WHITE!/magenta/cyan…
There is no Abacab sleeve issued in this colour combination. Not in the U.K. nor anywhere else in the world as far as I can tell.
The strange sleeve colour relates only to the front of the sleeve. The rear is exactly as it should be and the inner sleeve and record are standard in every way. The last photo in my listing shows you what this sleeve should look like. PLEASE NOTE! THE RECORD SHOWN IN THE FINAL PHOTO IS NOT FOR SALE AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION! IT IS FOR COMPARISON ONLY.
So… I’ve no idea how to price this to be honest. I’ve owned it for decades as part of a huge Genesis collection. I don’t really want to let it go because I’ve never seen another - hence the high starting bid…
Oh, it’s in superb condition throughout.
