GUY REIBEL
VARIATIONS EN ETOILE / SUITE POUR EDGAR POE LP
INA-GRM
Original 1st edition of Guy Reibel's opus magnum on the INA-GRM label creating unique concrete soundscapes and mixing them with sound poetry.
Some info on the release: Original INA GRM release (that released also records from Jean-Claude Risset, Michel Redofli, Jean Schwarz, Alain Savouret, Francois-Bernard Mache, Gilbert Amy and others) release with gatefold special opening cover. This is the very rare first edition, the same album was later re-issued on the serie gramme series of Ina-Grm.
One of the most important releases of INA-GRM label, here you can find the sound poetry / musique concrete piece 'Suite pour Edgar Poe', where Reibel experiments with his 'vocal game' theory using extracts from Poe's poems 'Ombre', 'Annabel Lee', 'Silence' and mixing them with electronic and concrete sounds ina beautiful sound collage. Would not be very far away from sound poetry works of Henri Chopin, Ake Hodell, Brion Gysin, Heidsieck, Dieter Roth, Francois Dufrene and alike. 'Variations en etoile' is a musique concrete piece mixing again some concrete & electronic sounds this time with sounds from instruments played by Jean-Pierre Drouet, while 'Deux etudes aux modulations' is one of Reibel's nicest electroacoustic music compositions. Reibel is known for his 'Corps sonores de la Villette', beautiful sound sculptures that produce according to the mouvement of the guest various electronic sounds...
Guy Reibel (1936, Strasbourg, France) is a conductor, a composer, a teacher and a promoter of electroacoustic music. Reibel studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris (now CNSM). He's also responsible for the realization of the sonic version of the Traité des objets musicaux from Pierre Schaeffer. Producer from 1977 to 1986 for public radio stations France Culture & France Musique. Founder of the choir workshop of Radio France focused on premiering challenging contemporary works. Conductor of Groupe Vocal de France from 1986 to 1990 with which he recorded the complete Ligeti works for voice. Now conductor of Radio France Choir on a regularly basis from 1991. First assistant of Pierre Schaeffer during his electroacoustic composition courses at CNSM before fully establishing himself as a teacher from 1976.
Condition: Vinyl and cover lie in excellent condition. Vinyl looks super clean and shiny and plays well with some occasional crackle, while cover looks beautiful and would be mint if it wasn't for some slight aging.
