Description
Groundhogs were a British rock band founded in late 1963 and toured extensively during the 60's and early 70's. They supported many top line artists from the Stones to John Lee Hooker and it was from Hooker and his blues style that Tony McPhee lead guitarist with the band steered them towards the blues and renamed them after Hookers own composition, Groundhog Blues...dispensing with the word ' Blues' and staying with just Groundhogs, when they backed him on his 1964 UK tour. The line-upon this first album, Scratching the Surface, comprised McPhee, lead guitar and vocal, Peter Cruikshank, bass guitar, Ken Pustelnik, drums and Steve Rye, harmonica
The album is much sought after and is difficult to find. The vinyl can best be described as very good although it does show sign of plenty of play .There are surface marks across the vinyl commesurate with having been used well but when played there is no jumping and the sound is clear. It is a first pressing with matrix marks A1 - B1 and the sleeve is excellent with no marks or tears
