The Groundhogs sadly seem to have been forgotten by virtually everyone. They form an integral part of the transition from 1960's 'white' Blues to the Rock styles of the late 60's to early 70's.

This is the Album which elevated them from a good Blues band (in the shadow of John Lee Hooker) to a great rock band. While their sound is still clearly rooted in Blues, The Groundhogs took things to the next level on Blues Obituary. 'Light Was the Day' feels like an experimental Blues-Rock jam, bursting with raw energy & gives an insight into later albums. Tracks such as BDD & Mistreated are fantastic proto-rock classics which gave me goosebumps of excitement the first time I heard them & just sound sooo fresh. Nachez Burning is a fairly straight cover of the Howlin' Wolf classic & retains all the passion of the original. Every track delights & T S McPhee's Guitar work is a joy to behold.

In my opinion This album is as important as anything recorded by their more famous contempories of the time.
