James Welch -
MAGNUM OPUS
Volume One -
Wilson Audio Specialties W-8111 - TAS -
Factory Sealed
Here featured is the first volume of Welch's fine work for David Wilson on MAGNUM OPUS.
Simply put, it is a Flentrop Organ of 55 sounding stops and 76 ranks, the beast itself standing some 45 feet high, in the choir loft at St. Mark's.
Of the recording itself, which is fabulous, Mr. Wilson states the following:
"With St. Mark's we have the fine musical symbiosis of a masterpiece instrument residing in a wonderfully responsive and reverberant room. To capture an honest and aesthetic sonic portrait of the instrument and its room, omnidirectional Schoeps CMC-32 condenser microphones were used in a spaced pair configuration. These units have linear response and very low off-axis coloration…positioned to allow the Rugwerk to be heard distinctly and to project a greater sense of presence than the rest of the organ."
Then Mr. Wilson says the magic words:
"The microphone placement allows the listener to perceive the considerable depth (over 20') of the loft between the Rugwerk and the rest of the instrument, as well as the acoustics of the room."
Promise: If you have a high caliber hi-fi system, all of the musical event will be revealed, from this, a factory sealed copy, ready as ever to paint a sonic picture, complete.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $14 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $5, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
