Description
GLASTONBURY FAYRE - A MUSICAL ANTHOLOGY MEGA RARE UK COMPLETE ORIGINAL VARIOUS ARTIST 3 LP SET, LIVE RECORDINGS OF THIS HISTORIC 1972 MUSIC FESTIVAL
On offer is the original 3-LP set GLASTONBURY FAYRE : A music anthology (3-LP set with booklets, pyramid & printed polythene bag) released in the UK on the Revelation label REV 1/2/3 in 1972. This extremely scarce 3-LP set is in superb condition and comes complete with all its original inserts.
The 3-LP set contains live recordings of the historic 1971 Glastonbury Fayre Festival held at Worthy Farm, Pilton, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, from Sunday June 20 to Thursday June 24, 1971 (which significantly included Mid-Summers Day). The 3-LP set also contains some material that was recorded elsewhere such as the track Sunken Rags by Marc Bolan which was recorded at his home. The LP is sought after for a range of reasons – it contains otherwise unreleased material by Marc Bolan, David Bowie and Pete Townshend. In addition Grateful Dead fans, Hawkwind collectors and Pink Fairy aficionados / completists all seek this LP for the recordings these 3-LPs contain. I was one of the 7000 people who attended this music festival ( I was the one whose tent was burned down which fortunately for me was not on the film of the event – I was asleep in it at the time but made my escape although the sleeping bag was singed!).
Condition of this fantastic set is as follows-
Disc 1 – mint / near mint, no marks, no spindle trails, shiny, clean and plays superbly
Disc 2– mint / near mint, no marks, no spindle trails, shiny, clean and plays superbly
Disc 3 – mint / near mint, no marks, no spindle trails, shiny, clean and plays superbly
GIGANTIC FOLDOUT POSTER COVER – excellent / EX+ condition with no tears or creases (it was never made into the poster but instead protected the discs and other material).
2 FOLD OUT POSTERS – these are in excellent/EX+ condition with no tears or creases (again neither of these were ever made into the poster but instead were kept intact inside the foldout poster cover.
32 PAGE BOOKLET – in superb EX+ condition.
PYRAMID – this was never used and remains in EX+/ near mint condition.
PRINTED POLYTHENE OUTER COVER - It comes with the rare polythene outer bag – which has protected the rest of the contents very well. This printed polythene outer bag (which is usually missing on the rare occasions that the set is up for sale) has worn edges and a small hole in the bottom corner – however the printed logo and all the wording is still visible. The bag is graded at VG /VG+ - having done its job of protecting the rest of the package.
This set also includes a still black and white photograph accredited to the - Colossal Pictures/ Good Times Enterprises Production of Glastonbury Fayre X Eastmancolour. (Note – This black and white still photo may be unique to this copy as it is not mentioned on the descriptions of other examples of this rare 3 –LP set. This still photo is in VG+condition. If anyone can shed light on picture this please email me. Thanks)
Overall this is a beautiful original 3-LP set from the historic Glastonbury 1972 Music Festival that is hard-to-find especially in this superb condition. I hope that whoever buys this set will not mind me boring them with my memories of the festival - not least how the fire started in my tent after the Mighty Baby set!
