GINGER ROGERS

"Ginger Rogers/Silver Screen Star Series" * "Hello, Ginger!"

Ginger Rogers was much more than Fred Astaire's dancing partner. And, that comes across in these two LPs. "Ginger Rogers/Silver Screen Star Series" (Curtain Calls CC 100/21) traces the star's career from one of her first films, "Office Blues" (1929) up to her rendering (on TV) of Jerry Herman's "That's How Young I Feel" from "Mame" (1972). The track before this is "Before the Parade Passes By," from "Hello, Dolly!" (1964), where Rogers appeared in the 1965 Touring Cast. Along the way, between dances with Fred, Ginger won an Academy Award for "Kitty Foyle" (a dramatic role not reflected on this LP). But, there are 19 songs, including duets with Johnny Mercer, Dick Powell, Ray Milland, and yes, a couple with the previous mentioned "dancing partner."

Our second record is "Hello, Ginger!," released on the Citel Records label, probably recorded sometime in the 1960's or early 70's, during the time she was touring with her own nightclub act.   The studio recording, in Stereo, is arranged and conducted by Jack Marshall. She sings 12 songs, five by George Gershwin, single numbers by Johnny Mercer, Jerry Herman, Jerome Kern, Harry Warren and others. BOTH LPs and covers are graded Excellent.

WHY SHOULD YOU BUY FROM ME???

With so many selling on line these days, it's tough to decide who to buy from. Feedback ratings certainly tell part of the story. But I think you'll find me a little different. FIRST, I primarily sell vintage vinyl ALL from my own personal collection. As a fomer disc jockey, I learned how to handle vinyl--via the label and then record edges--keeping fingers and hands off the music tracks. Therefore, MOST LPs are offerred as Excellent to Near MINT, particulalry when I acquired the item new. In some cases, however, I added used records to my collection, but was particular in not accepting anything below VG to VG+ (with the possible exception of very rare items).
