THIS ITEM COMES FROM THE INCREDIBLE, SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION WE ACQUIRED A WHILE AGO, IN WHICH ITEMS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BY THE OWNER FROM THE MID-'60s to THE MID-'70s WERE KEPT STILL SEALED IN A NEAR-LABORATORY, TIME-CAPSULE CONDITIONS AND IN PRACTICALLY CLIMATE- AND HUMIDITY- CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.  CONDITIONS OF SOME OF THESE ITEMS RANGE FROM IMPECCABLE TO TRULY UNBELIEVABLE. The end of Atlantic Records' distribution contract for the recordings of Cream and its former members in late 1971 and early 1972 yielded a bumper crop of cutouts of their various albums; and also this double-LP compilation of Ginger Baker's work, under the new distribution deal with Polydor. It was perhaps a little premature, in that Baker only actually had out the two albums by his group Air Force at the time -- one of those a live album -- but it was an excuse to repackage and represent that material, which had never gotten the respect or exposure that it deserved. And it succeeded, providing Baker with a spotlight at a time when mystique about Cream was just starting to coalesce, along with ex-bandmate Eric Clapton's burgeoning stardom. Baker would never match his former bandmate's success, but as this double album showed, it wasn't for lack of musical quality that this was the case -- he lacked some aspects of commerciality, as is reflected in the presence of the nine superb but mostly extremely long numbers on this set; coaxing an AM radio-friendly single, or even a number that could be successfully divided in half like "Layla," would never be romotely as easy for Baker as it had already proved for Clapton.

(b)          The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
