Condition : the typically Brazilian plain gatefold  sleeve - namely without any credit, note or image printed inside - shows a slight ring wear and a some aging and dirt in particular on the back / vinyl has a few minor scuffs which do not affect at all listening, EX+

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : tre canzoni della colonna sonora (a2, a5, b1) sono state composte da Gilberto Gil con liriche del poeta José Carlos Capinam, mentre una quarta (b8) è di Caetano Veloso. Le altre sedici brani strumentali presenti nell’album sono di Rogério Duprat. Nei circa 32 minuti di durata del disco, le quattro canzoni occupano un tempo di quasi 12 minuti.  Penso sia necessario fare una breve premessa: tutti i musicisti sopra nominati furono importanti esponenti del movimento musicale Brasiliano Tropicália. Fenomeno questo che aveva radici più antiche e che riguardava anche la pittura, il pensiero filosofico, la letteratura, il cinema e molte altre espressioni artistiche. Per quanto riguarda la musica negli anni 60 i tropicalisti cercarono e riuscirono a fondere elementi di rock psichedelico, musica classica e folk in una sorta di sperimentazione d’avanguardia in cui, per non usare parole mie: "la chitarra elettrica, i violini ed il berimbau convivevano magnificamente". In questo formidabile colonna sonora ritroviamo molto di quanto ora ho accennato. Si tratta di ascoltare più volte e con molta attenzione le sue musiche e canzoni soprattutto per chi ha una cultura musicale non Brasiliana.  "Canção Da Moça" (a2) è una raffinatissima bossa splendidamente cantata da Gal Costa accompagnata dalla chitarra acustica. La cantante Brasiliana interpreta anche "Homen de Neandertal" (a5) in un magnifico duetto con Bruno Ferreira. E' una ballata dall'andamento sonoro moderatamente ritmico caratterizzato da flauto, basso e percussioni. "Orga  Subterrãnea" (a10) evoca un'interessante atmosfera psichedelica sottolineata da organo, percussioni ed effetti sonori così come in "Duelo de Garfo e Faca" (b4) dove il duello tra forchetta e coltello è simulato dal flauto in contrapposizione ad un tradizionale strumento a corda, forse proprio il berimbau. Gal Costa con Ênio Gonçalves e Bruno Ferreira canta "Show de Me Esqueci" (b1), dai tipici ritmi Brasiliani guidati dalla chitarra, rallentando e accelerando frequentemente le tonalità vocali in una sorta di riassunto di tutte le melodie del film, sia lente che vivaci. "Coração" (b2), in versione strumentale e nuovo arrangiamento – l’anno prima questa composizione di Duprat era stata cantata da Caetano Veloso – è caratterizzata da un ottimo assolo di clarinetto con orchestra in sottofondo.  Infine la deliziosa canzone "Não Identificado" (b8) dalla voce di Gal Costa e con un accompagnamento di suoni leggeri ma eleganti dell’organo e dell’orchestra per un’atmosfera sonora rilassante. I molti brani che qui non menziono hanno tempi estremamente corti tali da rendere difficile una loro pur minima descrizione. Tuttavia va detto che queste tracce, ciascuna indubbiamente di grande personalità, comprendono sonorità d’avanguardia, jazz (a6) musica classica e folk oltre al fatto di avere un'importante funzione di collegamento fra i brani di maggior durata.

Notes : three songs of the film soundtrack (a2, a5, b1) were composed by Gilberto Gil with lyrics by the poet José Carlos Capinam and another one (b8) by Caetano Veloso. The other sixteen instrumental tracks included on the album by Rogério Duprat. In about 32 minutes in duration, the four songs take up a time of almost 12 minutes.  I think it is necessary to do a short premise: all the musicians named above were important exponents of Brazilian music movement Tropicália. This phenomenon had older roots and also concerned painting, philosophy, literature, cinematography and many other artistic expressions. As regards the music in the 60's the tropicalists tried and succeeded to fuse elements of psychedelic rock, classical and folk music in a kind of avant-garde experiment wherein, for not using my words, "electric guitar, violins and the berimbau coexisted magnificently". In this terrific soundtrack we find much of what I just mentioned. It is to listen for several times and with great attention its musics and songs especially for those with a non-Brazilian music culture. "Canção from Moça" (a2) is a highly sophisticated bossa beautifully sung by Gal Costa accompanied by acoustic guitar. The Brazilian female singer also performs "Homen de Neanderthal" (a5) in a wonderful duet with Bruno Ferreira. It is a ballad from a moderate rhythmic texture based on flute, bass and percussion. "Orga Subterrãnea" (a10) evokes an interesting psychedelic atmosphere highlighted by the organ, percussion and sound effects as well as "Duelo de Garfo and Faca" (b4) wherein the duel between fork and knife is simulated by the flute in opposition to a traditional stringed instrument, maybe just the berimbau. Gal Costa with Ênio Gonçalves and Bruno Ferreira sings "Show Me de Esqueci" (b1), with typical Brazilian rhythms led by guitar, slowing down and accelerating frequently the vocal tones in a kind of recap of all the melodies of the film, both slow and lively. "Coração" (b2) in instrumental version and new arrangement - a year earlier this composition by Duprat had been sung by Caetano Veloso - is characterized by a great clarinet solo with orchestra in the background. Finally the lovely song "Não Identificado" (b8) by the voice of Gal Costa and with a lightened but elegant accompaniment from organ and orchestra reflecting a restful atmosphere. The many tracks here I don’t mention have a very short time so as to make it difficult for them to even minimal description. However it must be said that these tracks, certainly each from great personality, include avant-garde sonorities, jazz (a6), classical and folk music as well as have an important function of connection between the longer tracks.
