Janis and Elvis 1957 South African Pressing
This is it Elvis Fans!!The Ultimate Rare Elvis Record
I bought this record whilst travelling in South Africa, from and old South African guy who loved Elvis and showed me his collection!
Now, just in case you do not know exactly what this is, in 1957,
the RCA company in South Africa decided to release an album on its
'Teal' label featuring 'new' stars,
Elvis Presley and Janis Martin, the latter had been billed in America as "the female Elvis".
Elvis' manager, Tom Parker got wind of this and blew his top, firstly saying
"Nobody shares a record with Elvis" and, to compound the case,
"it is called 'Janis and Elvis' not 'Elvis and Janis' " !
RCA South Africa did a quick recall; apparantly it was released on a Friday and pulled on the Saturday, a day later.
If you look at the tracks you will see that Janis does not actually sing with Elvis (more's the pity) she alternates tracks.
It is so desirable that it has been extensively bootlegged around the world and there was even
a legitimate re-issue in France however, a close examination of the photographs will show that this is the a genuine issue.
None of the copies had flap-over back covers and none had the thumb cut-out on the back and none had the title printed on the spine
as shown in the photograph.
Besides this, the labels were completely different and, in the case of most bootlegs,
the cover picture had a printed tear at the 3 o'clock position; because the record is so unbelievably
rare in good condition, they had to photograph a cover with a tear!
No tears on this one though and you will not get another chance to buy one of the most
famous and rare Presley items in this condition again.
A more detailed description follows but, should you wish to know anything more, just contact me.

If you collect Elvis to this high level, have a serious think about this item.
You can check on the internet and you will see that few ever come on to the market and, if any do, they are not in good condition.
I really doubt you will see one like this again.
You will note that I have set a high, but realistic, starting price, ($1500) below which I would not consider selling such a desirable item at. I have had this for years and am in no real hurry to get rid of it and certainly will not undersell it!
