Description

This is a very rare, one-of-a-handful of copies of Genesis’ ‘Entangled’ b/w ‘Ripples’ manufactured by WEA Music of Canada and taken from the ‘Trick of the Tail’ album. Two different versions of this song were released as singles in the US and Canada in 1976: a full-length version of 6:26 & 8:03, respectively, which was used in the US and an edited version of 3:24 & 4:15, respectively, that was released in Canada.

Prior to the Canadian release, a test pressing of ‘Ripples’, with a running time of only 3:45, was sent for evaluation purposes to WEA Canada from Atco Records in New York. When the master tapes arrived sometime later, the single was put into production. Corresponding labels were printed - with the running time for ‘Ripples’ at 3:45 - and singles were pressed. Unbeknownst to the WEA staff, the approved master tape for ‘Ripples’ was actually 4:15 in length. When sample copies of the finished single were sent to WEA, the timing difference between the label copy and the actual song was noticed and the samples were destroyed. That is, except for a very few of which this is one.

Condition of vinyl and labels is mint. There is some dust crackle but no major faults to the record. The WEA sleeve has a number on the top left and right .

This record is unique and, I would venture to say, one of only a handful that we Genesis fanatics on staff at WEA at the time were able to keep. Given its history, this single deserves a good home. Here is your chance – probably your only chance - to add this rarity to your collection. Good luck.
