Description
Scarce historical military WWI 10-inch shellac record: GENERAL PERSHING - From the Battlefields of France - with his ETCHED AUTOGRAPH in the large run-off area of the A-side; Nation's Forum 69333, made by the Columbia Graphophone Co., copyrighted 1918; directed by Guy Golterman; the B-side has Ambassador JAMES W. GERARD - "Loyalty".
General of the Armies John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing (1860 - 1948) was a senior United States Army officer. His most famous post was when he served as the commander of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front in World War I, 1917-1918. I have several other records like this also currently listed, where a person of note has signed the wax of the original master pressing.
Condition is EX (the groove area is EX, large runoff area has some minor scuffs, labels have light rubbing).
MORE TO COME - I've listed and will be listing many other rare 10" and 12" shellac records over the next month or two, mainly historical events, sports, personalities, politicians, speeches, military, WWI, WWII, presidential & campaign, kings & queens, etc.
A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.
