Description

You are bidding on the following:

Rarity: extremely rare SIGNED and AUTHENTICATED Frank Zappa (guitar/Synclavier/vocals) bold autograph, on a copy of the ‘Francis Vincent Zappa conducts LUMPY GRAVY’ 12” vinyl release.

This signed album was purchased by me as one of four signed Zappa-related vinyl’s, and I came to secure these autographs via the world-renowned Omega Auctions this year, who carry out the highest due-diligence on the authenticity for any autographs put for sale by their auction house – a copy of the redacted receipt listing this item will be included in the sale. It should be noted that this autograph also includes the Omega listing confirmation that this signature has been verified by the renowned ‘Roger Epperson’, who again has a global reputation and again this second level of assurance is captured within the Omega sale listing which will be supplied.

So, there you have it:

Genuine and stunning large Frank Zappa signature (front panel) of probably one of his most enduring images!

Sold and evidenced via the renowned Omega Auctions (copy of redacted proof of purchase via this seller to be provided with record)

Authenticated by renowned Roger Epperson (referenced within the sale listing)

It should also be noted that based on the sale collateral provided by the vendor, it would appear that this has been owned in the UK for around thirty - two years,  and that the signing took place six years earlier at the January 1983 ‘one off’ London performance at the Barbican Centre with the London Symphony Orchestra. This is confirmed in written correspondence between the original owner and last owner dated 1989, and again copies of the notes will be provided.

Title: ‘Francis Vincent Zappa conducts Lumpy Gravy’

Barcode: unbarcoded

Release number: 2317 046 SELECT

Label: pressed under licence from USA Verve / MGM by Polydor Records (UK  pressing with 'made in Great Britain' on the labels)

Release date: 1968

Condition: all pictures will refer to the all-important signatures and images of the outer cover. I am not grading in detail either the record or inner sleeve, as the reality is there is no intrinsic value in these parts, the value is all in the outer gatefold cover due to the super rare signature! (I would say both record and inner sleeve visually are very good condition, albeit the inner sleeve as a number of splits and the record moderate hairlines etc).

Outer cover: this is a gatefold outer cover opening on the right-hand side. In grading the cover minus signatures, I would be quite harsh on this one, a UK card stock pressing by MacNeill Press, London SE1. This clearly is a well-handled cover, with minor spine wear, moderate corner wear and dinking. The four panels have minor to moderate rubbing, moderate age yellowing, no splits and minor wear around the spine and top and bottom edges.  I would grade this cover as very good condition.

The signature: Frank’s signatures is signed in the thick black medium -grade felt marker, and it looks simply amazing!! This signature is on the outside of the front panel. For me, this is the best representation of a Frank Zappa I have laid my eyes on, and I have no hesitation in grading this as a superb condition or 10/10 for boldness, lack of fading, no smudging etc, and overall impact! This is an album cover that will look simply stunning if framed! This is THE classic Zappa image and would be the prize posession and final autograph upgrade for any Zappa fan!
