This is a very rare, mint-condition copy of the Alternative Tentacles British pressing of Dischord Records' DC Hardcore compilation, "Flex Your Head". Alternative Tentacles #Virus 22, London, England/Dischord Records No.7, Washington, DC........DESCRIPTION: The front cover features a large DC flag, with Xs substituted for stars. The artwork was actually done by me (Jeff Nelson, Minor Threat/Dischord) for the back of my girlfriend Giovanna's jacket, and then I ended up using the stencil for the front cover of this British version of the record. Addresses for both Alternative Tentacles and Dischord Records are listed, and the price in the corner says "£3.99 - Don't Pay More!" This record includes a large poster, with XXX flag and photos and lyrics from each of the bands represented on the record. (1st American pressing featured a stock photo of a violin, and came with an 8 1/2" x 11" xeroxed sheet for each of the 11 bands. 2nd American pressing featured a stock photograph of a wheat field, and individual band sheets were combined into one big poster.)........ HISTORY: "Flex Your Head" came out in 1982, and was Dischord Records' first LP, after having put out six 7" EPs the previous year. This compilation record contains songs by a great many early DC hardcore bands: Teen Idles, Untouchables, State of Alert (S.O.A.), Minor Threat, Government Issue (G.I.s), Youth Brigade, Red C, Void, Iron Cross, Artificial Peace, Deadline. (some very sad recent news is of the untimely death of Sean Finnegan, drummer from Void.) This "XXX" pressing was the first record that Dischord ever released outside the USA. As result of this release, Dischord ALMOST put out Minor Threat's "Out of Step" record with Alternative Tentacles in the U.K.. (Choice was between Alternative Tentacles, SST, Rough Trade, or Southern Studios. In the end we decided to go with Southern Studios, because owner John Loder had worked with Crass, whose work we respected, and because he seemed genuinely interested in the label, not just in the "Out of Step" record. After releasing "Out of Step" in Europe with Southern, we combined the first 2 Minor Threat 7"s onto on 12" EP, and 25 years later, we are still working with Southern. ...... CONDITION/PROVENANCE: This record is in absolutely mint condition, and has never, ever been played. Record comes from my punk archives, which are being downsized after having been described as "too big" and "insane." Ohio Residents add 7% Sales Tax to item total (not shipping) ......
