Fabulous FATS NAVARRO Vol 2 BLUE NOTE 1532 Rare LP RVG
"The Fabulous Fats Navarro, Volume 2," (Blue Note 1532) completes a two-album snapshot of Fats Navarro's talent. Trumpeter Joe Newman said that he had everything: "soul, a good lip, continuity and a good sound (one of those big butter sounds)." But Fats died in 1950, long before his full potential had been reached.
This album, and the first record of the set, "The Fabulous Fats Navarro, Volume One" (Blue Note 1531) presents all of the takes of a recording session filled with emerging bebop stars.
In Volumes One and Two, they included saxophonists Sonny Rollins, Ernie Henry, Wardell Gray, Allen Eager and Charlie Rouse. Pianists Bud Powell, Tadd Dameron and Milt Jackson. Drummers Shadow Wilson, Kenny Clarke and Roy Haynes. Bassists Curly Russell, Nelson Boyd and Tommy Potter. Most musicians appear on both albums.
There is a discrepancy between the addresses on Side A, “Blue Note Records Inc. * New York USA” and Side B, “Blue Note Records 767 Lexington Ave NYC.” Please refer to the photos. The address on the album cover is 43 West 61st St., New York 23.
Rudy Van Gelder was responsible for the recording, and his initials, RVG, are stamped in the deadwax area and appear appear on both sides.
The record plays very well, and I grade the sound VG+ to VG++, with little or no surface noise or pops. The vinyl has some paper scuffs and a few scratches (that I couldn’t feel with my fingernail.)

The album cover is at least VG+. The photo of Fats on the front is very sharp. There is a small ring wear pattern on the bottom edge. The spine shows wear. White and orange bars alternate across the top of the cover, and the white shows some wear spots—not obvious because it is not solid. The spine shows wear and three of the corners show modest dings. The back cover is unmarked and very good.
