Description
This is a fine U.S. white label promo copy of a rare 1975 LP, part comp and part archival release, by two incomparable NYC groups, the Fugs and the Holy Modal Rounders (their early collaborators). The Fugs were formed by two young Beat poets, Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg, in 1965. The Rounders coalesced as the duo of Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber a couple of years before that, then joined the Fugs for a brief stint after the release of their second album. This LP's main attraction is six previously unreleased songs: two by Kupferberg ("Defeated" and "Jackoff Blues"), one by Stampfel ("Romping Through the Swamp"), and three that are outtake versions of traditional songs that appeared on the Rounders' first two LPs. Of the first three, "Defeated" has been included on CD reissues of the Fugs' debut LP, but "Jackoff Blues" does not seem to have appeared anywhere else. "Romping" was recorded by NYC folkie Dave Van Ronk for his 1967 LP, Dave Van Ronk and the Hudson Dusters, and was rerecorded by the Rounders for one of their '70s LPs, but this version similarly appears to be otherwise unavailable. The collection is rounded out by three tracks from each of the Fugs' three LPs for ESP. The jacket has a cutout hole, and is otherwise close to M- with some light creasing in one corner and along the spine on the front cover (EX). The disc is clean with a little light scuffing, and plays close to M- with a little light surface noise (EX+). The record comes with a label mail order form.
I am in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
