Here is the ONLY copy I have ever seen of this EXTREMELY rare 12 inch record... I've found no mention of this item on the internet (or anywhere else for that matter).
Before his career as a high profile radical lawyer, William Kunstler had a radio program (in the 1950s) on WNEW radio in New York called "Counterpoint". This record features a "Counterpoint" broadcast in which Professor William Kunstler speaks to Dr Fredric Wertham.
Dr Wertham was a psychiatrist, who is best remembered today for his 1954 book "Seduction Of The Innocent". This landmark book was very critical of the type of comic books being published at that time. Wertham felt that these comics played a big part in Juvenille Deliquency. As a result of his work, the comic book industry was completely overhauled. Long time publishers shut down, comic book stories were highly modified and the Comic Code Authority was formed.
I played a brief snippet of this record many years ago. As I recall, Wertham spoke about an "insanity defense" in the criminal case of Angelo Lamarca (who was accused of kidnapping and killing a child in the mid 1950s). I no longer have a record player-- so, I do not know what other subjects are discussed by Wertham and Kunstler on this recording.
The record itself is quite dusty and filmy on sides. I did NOT see any deep scratches or cuts on either side of the record-- but, it is grimy. Again, as I recall-- the few minutes that I played years ago sounded quite good. Unfortunately, I can't be sure exactly how well it sounds now. My guess is that all this record needs is a really good cleaning.... I will leave that to the buyer.
This is an opportunity to own a unique piece of history... it's unlikely you'll ever find it again.
