Description
What a find! Presenting the Holy Grail for Frank Sinatra fans, his first commercial 78 RPM recording, Brunswick #8443.
This is Sinatra’s first record with Harry James and his Orchestra, recorded July 13, 1939. This is also his only recording with Harry James on the depression-era Brunswick label. Sinatra stayed with James’ orchestra less than a year after this, leaving to joined Tommy Dorsey’s band in 1940.
Frank sings the dark "Melancholy Mood" and the dreamy "From the Bottom of My Heart". His voice at this time, of course, is incomparable.
The overall condition of the record is E-. The playing surface is shiny, with only very light wear. There is a small, slightly raised area on one edge, about 1/4 in. wide, and a very light scratch, less than 1/4 in. long, just beyond that. Neither of these affects the grooves or the lead-in, and both are very insignificant. Just wanted to mention them considering the value of this record.
Both sides sound great, are strongly recorded, and have very little surface noise. This record comes in its original, Brunswick sleeve, which is in crisp, clean condition, and displays beautifully.
This sought-after disc is a must-have for the true Frank Sinatra fan. It is seldom offered on eBay. Don’t let it get away!
