Legendary Unreleased 1966-'67 Album!
Cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from Original Masters!
Gatefold Packaging & Artwork Designed by Frank Holmes!
With the full participation of original Beach Boys Al Jardine, Mike Love, and Brian Wilson, Capitol/EMI has, for the first time, collected and compiled the band’s legendary 1966-’67 sessions for the never-completed SMiLE album.
In numerous sessions between the spring of 1966 and the summer of 1967, The Beach Boys recorded a bounty of songs and drafts for an album, SMiLE, that was intended to follow the band's 1966 masterpiece, Pet Sounds. The master tapes were ultimately shelved, and The Beach Boys' SMiLE has never been released. Drawn from the original masters, The SMiLE Sessions presents an in-depth overview of The Beach Boys' recording sessions for the enigmatic album, which has achieved legendary, mythical status for music fans around the world.
The SMiLE Sessions’ 180g vinyl double LP features an approximation of what was intended to be the completed SMiLE album, compiled from The Beach Boys’ original session masters. Additional session highlights and bonus tracks are also included, including demos and stereo mixes.
Produced by Brian Wilson, Mark Linett, Alan Boyd and Dennis Wolfe in Los Angeles The SMiLE Sessions’ 2LP Set includes an assembled collection of core session tracks. The SMiLE Sessions invites the listener into the studio to experience the album's creation, with producer, singer and bassist Brian Wilson's vision leading the way as he guides his fellow Beach Boys, singer Mike Love, drummer Dennis Wilson, lead guitarist Carl Wilson, rhythm guitarist Al Jardine, and newest member Bruce Johnston (who'd replaced Brian Wilson in the touring group during 1965), through the legendary sessions.
Artwork for The SMiLE Sessions’ has been created with and inspired by Beat-Pop artist Frank Holmes’ original 1967 LP sleeve art and booklet designs intended for the SMiLE album.
When Capitol/EMI and The Beach Boys first announced plans for The SMiLE Sessions’ 2011 release, the news spread rapidly. Pitchfork reported, "The Beach Boys’ SMiLE is quite possibly the most storied album in rock history," Billboard proclaimed the upcoming release "an event that pop music fans have been waiting for since the Summer of Love," and The Washington Post called SMiLE "the most legendary unreleased album of all time."
The best efforts have been taken by The Beach Boys, the producers, and Capitol/EMI to present the SMiLE album sessions’ most vital and fascinating elements. However, there will no doubt be some debate amongst Beach Boys fans around the world who, during the past four decades, have become familiar with a variety of widely-traded bootlegged bits and pieces from the sessions. As recently explained by the Detroit Metro Times, “No album, released or not, has generated a more personal relationship with its audience, since no two people can ever agree on its content and purpose.”
Beginning with “Good Vibrations,” The Beach Boys’ best-selling record in a long string of hits, Brian Wilson had begun to construct songs in a modular form, crafting individual sections that would later be edited together to form a coherent whole. In several intense bursts of creative energy, Wilson, drawing on the talents of the finest studio musicians in Los Angeles and utilizing the best studio facilities available on any given day, laid down dozens of musical fragments, all designed to fit together in any number of possible combinations. No one had done this before in pop music, and his next endeavor would be an album-length version of this unique and luxurious songwriting parlance: SMiLE.
In 1965, Brian Wilson met an up-and-coming session keyboard player and songwriter, Van Dyke Parks. Noticing Parks' conversational eloquence, Wilson felt that he could help to volley The Beach Boys’ songwriting into the wave of broader-messaged and socially-conscious rock 'n' roll that would come to define the '60s. They were soon collaborating on keynote songs for SMiLE, including “Heroes And Villains,” the band’s follow-up single to “Good Vibrations.” Wilson and Parks would also co-write “Surf's Up,” “Vega-Tables,” “Cabin Essence,” “Do You Like Worms,” “Wonderful,” “Wind Chimes,” and other pieces of the SMiLE tapestry. Parks also introduced Frank Holmes to create album sleeve art and a booklet interpreting the album’s James Joyce-mode lyrics.
The reason SMiLE did not see a release in 1967 had more to do with back room business that obscured the creative side of the program than anything else. In late 1966, The Beach Boys formed Brother Records, initially to produce outside artists. Soon, however, The Beach Boys would become embroiled in a court action with Capitol Records with the goal to become the top-selling artists on their self-owned, independent label. The group withheld “Heroes And Villains” and announced they would instead release “Vega-Tables” – recorded with the band’s own money in April of '67 – on Brother Records. By July of 1967, Capitol Records and The Beach Boys had come to terms, with Capitol agreeing to distribute the band’s Brother Records, and it was agreed that SMiLE was no longer to be the band’s next album.

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 2/500!
"It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water…I love the album so much. I've just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life. I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard that album." -Paul McCartney
"All of us, Ginger (Baker), Jack (Bruce), and I consider Pet Sounds to be one of the greatest pop LPs to ever be released. It encompasses everything that's ever knocked me out and rolled it all into one." -Eric Clapton
To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, their Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson — famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger — intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson’s supervision were how the surf rockin’ California crew rose to fame! And they’ve got ‘em!
For the early part of the Beach Boys' career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format — they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. In those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Wilson, who suffers from partial deafness. In fact, for their first 13 albums, Wilson originally turned in all the final mixed Beach Boy albums to Capitol Records only in mono.
The mono mixes were where Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off!
Analogue Productions has taken 10 of the most classic, best-sounding Beach Boy titles ever and restored them to their mono glory!
But there’s no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like “Surfer Girl,” “In My Room,” “Little Deuce Coupe” and more lend themselves naturally to stereo. So Analogue Productions has your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well.
Mastered by Kevin Gray, most from the original master tapes, and plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings, the finest LP pressing facility in the world, these are awesome recordings to experience. And the look of each album befits its sonic superiority! Presented in "old school" Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals!
Pet Sounds is famous for its use of multiple layers of unorthodox instrumentation as well as other cutting edge audio techniques for its time. It's considered the best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound.
Conventional keyboards and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, Theremin, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments, Coca-Cola cans, barking dogs, and more. It wouldn't have been a classic without great songs, and this has some of the group's most stunning melodies, as well as lyrical themes which evoke both the intensity of newly born love affairs and the disappointment of failed romance (add in some general statements about loss of innocence and modern-day confusion as well). The spiritual quality of the material is enhanced by some of the most gorgeous upper-register male vocals (especially by Brian and Carl Wilson) ever heard on a rock record. "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline No," and "Sloop John B" (the last of which wasn't originally intended to go on the album) are the well-known hits, but equally worthy are such cuts as "You Still Believe in Me," "Don't Talk," "I Know There's an Answer," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times." It's often said that this is more of a Brian Wilson album than a Beach Boys recording (session musicians played most of the parts), but it should be noted that the harmonies are pure Beach Boys (and some of their best)
VH-1 named Pet Sounds as the No. 3 album in the Top 100 Albums in Rock 'n' Roll History, as judged in a poll of musicians, executives and journalists. It's been ranked No. 1 in several music magazines' lists of the greatest albums of all time, including NME, The Times and Mojo Magazine. It was ranked No. 2 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

The Beach Boy's Holland, the group's 19th studio album, was recorded in Baambrugge, Netherlands in the summer of 1972 and released in January 1973. The Analogue Productions reissue also includes a bonus 12-inch EP: Mount Vernon and Fairway (A Fairy Tale). Side 4 of the EP is a 45 RPM Bonus Cut of "Sail On Sailor" - Holland's famed lead track!
By mid-1972, with Wilson's focus waning from the Beach Boys to other creative outlets, and his personal and health-related issues mounting, Wilson was producing less music for the band than ever before. They decamped for the Netherlands hoping to jump-start Brian's creative energies.
Wilson contributed little to the album, concentrating his musical efforts on Mount Vernon and Fairway, a 10-minute long "musical fairy tale" eventually included with the album as a bonus EP.
The title of the bonus EP was named after the intersection where the Love family lived in Los Angeles, and where the Wilsons and Loves would gather for family celebrations back in the 1940s and '50s when Brian, Mike, Carl and Dennis were all growing up. As a concept for a Beach Boys track, "Mount Vernon and Fairway" initially received a less than enthusiastic response from the other band members when Brian first presented the idea to the group, and this only fueled Brian's steadily worsening depression. Eventually, Carl stepped in to produce the recording for Brian, and the decision was made to include the fairy tale in the album package as a separate EP. Brian himself designed the EP's picture sleeve.
Although "Mount Vernon and Fairway (A Fairy Tale)" was narrated by Jack Rieley, the voice of the Pied Piper was supplied by Brian in a slightly grainier-sounding "cartoon" voice.
The instrumental tracks for "Mount Vernon and Fairway (A Fairy Tale)" were later released on Good Vibrations: Thirty years of The Beach Boys as "Fairy Tale Music".

Upon the band's return from the Netherlands in the fall, Holland was rejected by Reprise Records for not having a potential hit single. Added to the track list was an unfinished Brian Wilson song "Sail On, Sailor" that he'd originally co-written with Ray Kennedy, and finally completed with the help of Van Dyke Parks, Jack Reiley and Tandyn Almer. It would ultimately become Holland's most famous track. A casualty of the album's tracklist reshuffling was another Fataar/Chaplin tune, written with Mike Love, called "We Got Love". A live version was included on the group's 1973 release The Beach Boys In Concert.

The follow-up to such a classic as PET SOUNDS- is the legendary SMILEY SMILE. Even attempting to follow up the brilliance of PET SOUNDS would be a tough mission for anyone, let alone the Beach Boys!. Add into the equation the astounding array of mind-bending drugs which were around at the time and the descent into weirdness which affected the Beach Boys resident genius Brian Wilson and we have all the ingredients of an A#1disaster. Well, make no mistake about it, there is little doubt that the Beach Boys lost their former Surfing audience and exchanged them for a new generation of stoners.
Containing the magnificent "Good Vibrations" (No.1 UK, No.1 US '66) and the audacious "Heroes and Villains" (No.9 UK, No.12 US '67), SMILEY SMILE is definitely an album of some very weird and wonderful times.
Other tracks include: Vegetables - Fall Breaks and Back To Winter - She's Goin' Bald - Little Pad - With Me Tonight - Wind Chimes - Getting Hungry - Wonderful - Whistle In
Needless to say, it sounds absolutely superb on beautiful 180 gram vinyl - as it was meant to be heard.
THE BEACH BOYS THE BEACH BOYS TODAY! 180 GRAM LP FROM THE CAPITOL RECORDS OUT OF PRINT VAULT SERIES
Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 271/500!
The highly acclaimed and industry leading vinyl initiative, EMI's "From the Capitol Vaults", continues with crucial titles from the Beach Boys, The Band, Frank Sinatra, David Bowie and Faust!
The 1965 album was the Beach Boys' eighth studio album and the first of three to be released that year. The record contains the original version of the classic hit "Help Me, Rhonda". "Today!" marked a major turning point for the band, and especially the exhausted Brian Wilson. This was the point Wilson gave up touring, and many consider this the beginning of his artistic maturation.
One side of the album contains upbeat songs including "Do You Wanna Dance" and "Help Me Rhonda" while the second side features ballads such as "Please Let Me Wonder" and "Kiss Me, Baby". Aside from their highly successful "Pet Sounds", "Today!" is their most highly acclaimed.
"The Beach Boys were still into cars, girls and surfboards, but Brian Wilson was already a genius. He writes sweet California tunes here, from "When I Grow Up (to Be a Man)" to "Don't Hurt My Little Sister." And the haunting "She Knows Me Too Well" hits as deep as anything on Pet Sounds." - rollingstone

"This was the album by which millions of sons of late baby boomers (and sons and daughters of the early ones) first really discovered the Beach Boys, beyond hearing the occasional oldie on the radio. It was the summer of 1974, and the Beach Boys were still trying to get themselves back on track commercially after a seven-year commercial dry spell, when this double LP of their 1963-1966 material (all but one cut predating Pet Sounds) came along and did the job. Endless Summer, which was assembled in consultation with Mike Love, soared to number one and charted high over two subsequent summers and attracted the enthusiastic attention of millions of listeners too young to have bought their singles back when." – All Music Guide

THE LIVE SECTION
The Beach Boys Beach Boys Concert 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP
180g Vinyl Reissue Includes "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" and "The Wanderer!"
Beach Boys Concert is a live album by the Beach Boys, released in 1964. It is their seventh album in all, and their third alone in the same year. What is perhaps most notable about the album is that it provided the Beach Boys with their first number one album in the US, remaining at the top for four weeks during a sixty-two week chart stay and becoming another gold seller.
Beach Boys Concert proves to be a timely release because leader and producer Brian Wilson was about to vacate his position in the live group, and would only perform sporadically with them over the course of the next three decades. It is also the only live document of the second line up of the Beach Boys in officially released LP form. It was recorded live at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, CA.
The album includes several songs that The Beach Boys regularly performed live but had not previously included on an album, such as "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow," "The Wanderer" and "Monster Mash." "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" was actually a Jan & Dean hit. Alongside those were a sampling of their favorites, such as "Hawaii," "In My Room," "Fun, Fun, Fun," and "I Get Around."

The Beach Boys WITH THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA DOUBLE 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION AUDIOPHILE LP
180-gram gatefold black vinyl 2LP
The Beach Boys present The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on black vinyl LP. Produced by Nick Patrick and Don Reedman, the album pairs The Beach Boys' original vocal performances with new symphonic arrangements, newly recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra spans decades of timeless Beach Boys hits and favorites across its 17 tracks.
On March 8 and 9, 2018, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra convened in Studio 2 at Universal Music Group's Abbey Road Studios in London, the storied room where The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and other legendary artists have recorded some of the world's most cherished music. There, they recorded new orchestral arrangements to complement The Beach Boys' classic vocal harmonies from the legendary group's original recordings.
Conducted by Steve Sidwell and Sally Herbert, who also wrote several of the album's new symphonic arrangements, the orchestra dove into The Beach Boys classics, including the new album's earliest hit, 1964's "Fun, Fun, Fun," and its most recent one, 1988's "Kokomo." The album also features the orchestra's new turns on the signature classics "Good Vibrations," "California Girls," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Sloop John B," "Help Me, Rhonda," "In My Room," "Disney Girls," and several more. The resulting album, The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, honors The Beach Boys' artistry and innovation in an inspired new way with the group's first album collaboration with a full orchestra.
Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson says, "I always knew the vocal arrangements I did back in the 1960s would lend themselves perfectly for a symphony and there is no better one in the world than the Royal Philharmonic. I am both proud and humbled by what they have created using our songs and I hope everyone falls in love with it like I have."
Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love says, "This album is one of a kind. I think the fact that the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has accompanied The Beach Boys with these great arrangements is just a phenomenal thing. It's a whole other dimension to our music."
The Beach Boys' Al Jardine says, "Don Reedman and Nick Patrick did a terrific job on this. I can't imagine having more fun than taking some of these great songs and putting them into this perspective. They did a beautiful job of arranging the music around the original vocals, which I think is a terrific idea. It makes the music feel new all over again!"
The Beach Boys' Bruce Johnston says, "When I listened to the album, I realized that the new arrangements performed by the orchestra didn't add the wrong kind of weight. They just added the beautiful fairy dust of the orchestra to what we already recorded. It's another interpretation of us without losing the groundwork of us. I really like it."
The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra co-producer Nick Patrick says, "I'm a complete and utter fan of The Beach Boys and the way their music makes you feel. The Beach Boys' music is so multi-layered — you can experience it on so many layers. You've got the obvious harmonies, which are amazing. But what we found making this record is when you dig down into the arrangements, they're extraordinary. They're fresh. They're new. They're complex. They're beautiful and constructed in a completely original way."
The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra co-producer Don Reedman says, "To be able to make this record, it's a great honor. The feeling you get, listening to the original recordings and the performances, and then to be able to put our expression into their recordings through our arrangements and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is an absolute thrill."

Brian Wilson Playback: The Brian Wilson Anthology DOUBLE LP GATEFOLD JACKET SET
Solo Career-Spanning Anthology On Double LP!
Brian Wilson's eponymous solo debut for Sire in 1988 launched an extended period of renewal for the iconic Beach Boys songwriter. Rhino revisits Wilson's solo career with an 18-song collection that mixes studio and live recordings with two previously unreleased tracks: "Run James Run," a new song Wilson wrote and recorded for this collection, and "Some Sweet Day," an unreleased gem he wrote with Andy Paley in the early 1990s for an unfinished recording project.
PLAYBACK: THE BRIAN WILSON ANTHOLOGY covers more than 30 years of music with selections from nine of Wilson's solo albums.
The collection opens with "Love And Mercy," one of the four songs on PLAYBACK taken from Wilson's self-titled debut. The song has become one of Wilson's most beloved classics, a regular closer to his live concerts, and was adopted as the title of the acclaimed 2015 biopic that saw the Beach Boy memorably played by both Paul Dano and John Cusack.
Several tracks on PLAYBACK come from the two albums Wilson released in 2004: Gettin' In Over My Head and the Grammy®-winning Brian Wilson Presents Smile. The most poignant of these is "Soul Searchin'," a song Wilson built around a vocal track left behind by his brother Carl, who passed away in 1998. The celebrated orchestral masterpiece, Smile is represented by "Heroes And Villains", and the timeless classic, "Surf's Up."
Those back-to-back releases ushered in a sustained burst of creativity for Wilson that includes four acclaimed albums. They're represented on the collection by "Midnight's Another Day" (That Lucky Old Sun, 2008); "The Like In I Love You" (Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin, 2010); "Colors Of The Wind" ( In The Key Of Disney, 2011); and "One Kind Of Love" (No Pier Pressure, 2015.)
Tucked in with these studio classics are two live performances from Wilson's 2000 concert recording, Live At The Roxy Theatre. Included here are "The First Time" and "This Isn't Love," a charming collaboration with Wilson's Pet Sounds lyricist Tony Asher.
PLAYBACK: THE BRIAN WILSON ANTHOLOGY includes a selection of classic photos from throughout Wilson's solo career, in addition to a candid shot taken in the studio in 2017 during the recording of "Run James Run." The album also includes liner notes by David Wild, and features a previously unseen picture of Wilson on the front cover, taken by legendary rock photographer Robert Matheu.
