• #1 - Test pressings in plain white inner sleeve, some have xeroxed track listing glued to it. #2 - First US pressing with “Violin” cover, 4000 made, most came with a lyric booklet/fanzine (early copies didn’t have one, but Dischord sent out copies to people who didn’t get it in the first place). US pressings have red/black printing on white labels. #3 - 2nd US press with “Wheat Field” cover, 3000 made, large one-sided lyric/info poster. #4 - First UK version on Alternative Tentacles with XXX cover, 2000 made, two-sided lyric/info poster. #5 - Subsequent pressings (from mid/late 80s) with Blurred Head cover, pressed in France; different pressings of this versions with different prices on the back, ranging from 6-8$ ppd. + poster. #6 - CD reissue has all 4 sleeves on a folded paper plus a miniature version of the poster.
• Classic hardcore compilation with all the important DC bands of that time; most play fast thrashy hardcore, sometimes too simple, but always honest & angry. There are some tracks that admittedly haven’t aged well, and some might argue that this LP is mainly of historical value, but a lot of this is just great and powerful hardcore that works just as well today as it did back in 1982, especially the songs by Minor Threat, Void & Artificial Peace. You need this anyway. [9]
• Was soll man dazu noch schreiben? Dieser Sampler IST Hard­core, und nicht zuletzt durch diese Platte ist die DC-Szene mit Bands wie Minor Threat, SOA, Government Issue oder Void weltweit bekannt geworden. Auch wenn einige Songs vielleicht etwas überholt scheinen, weil sie noch zu holprig und kellermäßig klingen, gibt es andererseits auch viele Bands, die bis heute unerreicht sind, weil sie die Bands waren, die diesen Sound als erste gemacht haben; die Musik von Void, Artificial Peace, Minor Threat und vielen anderen hat nichts von ihrer Aggressivität und Ehrlichkeit verloren. Pflicht.
