FIVE DAY RAIN - FIVE DAY RAIN - PSYCH / PROTO PROG - NEW LP
Fabulous album of British psychedelic and proto-progressive, recorded in 1970 at the legendary IBC studios (where bands like Factory or Who passed through) and only pressed as test pressing (extremely rare in original !!). Melodic vocals, tremendous distorted guitar, Hammond, good songs ... with connections to Scots Of St James, Hopscotch, Fleur De Lys, Glencoe, Studd Bump ... Remastered sound, insert with rare photos and detailed notes. Cover by cartoonist Sara Gossett.
Five Day Rain were formed after the union of the members of the hard-psychedelic trio Iron Prophet (Rick Sharpe on guitar, Clive Shepherd on bass and Dick Hawkes on drums) with organist Graham Maitland, who came from mythical mod groups like Scots. of St. James, Hopscotch and Fleur De Lys. After the initial idea of ??being called "The Entire Building Is About To Collapse", they decided on the name of Five Day Rain. Through a mutual friend, they are recruited by the producer / engineer tandem of Brian Carroll and Damon Lyon – Shaw, the latter famous for working with some of the biggest names of the 60s. Original drummer Dick is replaced by Kim Haworth and recording sessions for the first Five Day Rain album begin at IBC Studios.
The result was a perfectly recorded and executed disc of 10 songs that showcased Rick and Graham's great talent on guitar / organ on songs like "Marie's A Woman" or the long instrumental "Rough Cut Marmalade". The sound of Five Day Rain is a great example of the transition from the post-mod psychedelic of the late 60s to the first progressive.
Once the recording and mixing was complete, a few coverless test pressings were pressed and soon after the project was aborted, due to differences with the producers. Already in the 80s, original copies of the test pressing were discovered by collectors and the Five Day Rain album was released unofficially, becoming a cult album. It was not until 2006 that the first official edition on the Italian label Nightwings was released. Discontinued for many years, we present a new and long-awaited reissue.
