   Extremely rare 1978 experimental pressing by Capitol of The Beatles (White Album) SEBX-11841 on white vinyl with gray splash coloring. This is only the second copy that I have seen of one of these rarities in more than 12 years. They are MUCH RARER than even a "Yesterday and Today" Butcher Cover.

   Perry Cox, in his 1999 book, "Official Price Guide to the Beatles", second edition, details the experimental "gray splash" pressings, but reports that only disc 1 was produced. There was also an experimental pressing on clear vinyl on disc 2. Cox valued the gray splash White Albums at $175 for Good, $450 for Very Good, and $1,000 for Near Mint in 1999! The pressing offered in this auction MUST THEN REPRESENT A THIRD EXPERIMENTAL PRESSING as disc two shows the most splash in the white vinyl, AND disc one shows some very faint gray splashing. These "splashes" are ACTUALLY PART OF THE VINYL - they are NOT applied to the surface.

     Disc two shows the most splash in the white vinyl. As seen in the photos, most of the gray splash is visible between the 1 o'clock to 3 o'clock position based from the Capitol dome on the label. There is also a small splash of orange just below the bottom of the label.

 I have included six photos of disc two, four using overhead lighting, and two using backlighting (the orange-looking pictures). My camera did not produce a useful photo of the disc one splashes - apparently, they are too faint.

  The album also contains the four photos of the Beatles and the large, fold-open poster.

CONDITION: Both discs grade VG++ to Near Mint. The labels are Near Mint on three sides but one side shows a line where the needle cut through the paper. The four individual Beatles photos are fine. The poster shows minimal wear at the corners of the folds, but there are no pin holes or writing. The cover grades at G to VG, with visible ring wear, wear-through at the bottom right corner, some staining at the bottom, (maybe water stains?). As the splash discs are the major rarity factor for this album, I suggest that the bidder realize that a better condition jacket may be easily obtained, but these splash discs are almost never available to the collector.

  My reasonable starting bid allows even the novice collector a chance to own this extraordinarily rare experimental pressing of the fantastic Beatles record album, The White Album.

   NOTE:  For you audiophile rock fans, I will be listing a Near Mint Japanese CBS/Sony 40AP 1750 copy of Pink Floyd's "The Wall", with lyrics insert. This is one of the select Special Merit LPs included in Harry Pearson's SUPER LIST. A must for the true audiophile afficianado.
