Description

This is a precise replica of an incredibly rare Edison Diamond Disc record made in 1912 for dealers to play to prospective customers, allowing the phonograph to act as the salesman. All of the great features of the then-new Diamond Disc Phonograph were extolled in wonderful stentorian tone.

Only 100 copies of this reproduction were made in a cooperative venture between well-known collector Charley Hummel and Norman Bruderhofer of the Berlin Phonograph works, who makes a variety of outstanding replica cylinders. This is his only disc reproduction.

Made of a modern plastic resin compound, the record has the heft, sheen, and overall appearance of the original, with outstanding tone quality. It was made directly from the original, not a re-recording from a digital file.

One side of the record is blank (the side bearing the label, which evokes an original design). The actual recording is on the reverse. The record is housed in a very thick sleeve with felt lining for maximum protection. The reverse side carries a complete written transcription, by phonograph historian Stephan Puille.

Recorded in 1912, reproduced in 2012, this became an instant collector's item which sold out in a matter of weeks.

This record has literally only been played once. It is still in pristine, as-made condition. A singularly rare and unusual treasure for any phonograph collector. IMPORTANT NOTE: this can only be played on a Diamond Disc phonograph. Do not play with a needle!
