The Epitaph story begins in the winter of 1969/70 at what was back then Dortmund’s top music venue Fantasio. Down in the cellar, FAGIN’S EPITAPH, consisting of Yorkshire guitarist and singer Cliff Jackson, Scots drummer James McGillivray, and German bass player Bernd Kolbe practiced and refined their repertoire, before emerging from the depths to play gigs as the house band between such big names as Black Sabbath, Rory Gallagher, Yes and Argent.
Since then EPITAPH has been a constant in the rock business for five decades now, and the new album 'Long Ago Tomorrow' will demonstrate once again that they have lost nothing of their magic, vitality and class with their post-psych progressive rock, spiced with occasional jazz accents and widespread twin-guitar harmonies. The band story continues! The German/British Krautrock-legend will celebrate the 50th anniversary in the next months with a lot of touring, a couple of festivals during the summer weeks and with the release of their 11th studio album on CD in April this year. This double-vinyl edition will follow end of May.
Side D is filled with Bonustracks. “Any Day” and “Love Child” are tracks from the last studio album “Fire From The Soul”, once cutted on the vinyl edition due to the lack of space. The extraordinary cover version of Hendrix “Villanova Junction” was never released on vinyl before, too. Last but not least we added the Single edits of “Standing Like A Rock” and “Windy City”.
2019 wird für Epitaph zu einem großen Jubiläumsjahr - im Winter 1969/70 beginnt die Geschichte der Krautrocklegende im Dortmunder Musikclub 'Fantasio', in dessen Kellerräumen der Brite Cliff Jackson (Gesang, Gitarre), sein Landsmann James McGillivray (Schlagzeug) und Bassist Bernd Kolbe probten. 1971 stieß dann noch Gitarrist Klaus Walz zur Band. 2018 standen noch alle drei Gründungsmitglieder zusammen mit Gitarrist Heinz Glass (ab 1977 zum ersten Mal bei Epitaph) im Studio, um ihren neuen Longplayer 'Long Ago Tomorrow' zu produzieren.
„Long Ago Tomorrow“ ist erneut eine bezaubernde Epitaph Wundertüte. Mit tollen zündenden Rocksongs und gefühlvollen Balladen, singenden Twin-Gitarren, mehrstimmigen Chorgesängen und überraschenden Elementen wie z.B. der weltbekannte indonesische Studentenchor Paramabira, vereint dieses Album nicht nur alle Elemente, die man von einem neuen Epitaph-Album erwartet könnte. Es gelingt der Band scheinbar spielend, ihre 50 Jahre dauernde Bandgeschichte mit der Gegenwart zu verbinden.
Erneut, wie auch schon auf den letzten Alben und zahlreichen Live Konzerten, haben Epitaph mit Tim Reese (Truckstop) an der Violine, Klaus Henatsch (Nektar) an den Keyboards und Agnes Hapsari am Flügel ihre Freunde und Gefährten mobilisiert, die diesem Album erneut eine besondere Note verleihen.
Mit Carsten Steinkämpfer hat Epitaph zudem einen neuen Schlagzeuger an Bord, der für den großartigen Jim McGillivray einspringt.
Auf der 4. Seite dieser Doppel-LP befinden sich die Bonustracks. Aus Platzgründen wurden beim letzten Epitaph Album „Fire From The Soul“ in der Vinyl Edition zwei Titel entfernt (Any Day und Love Child). Auf „Long Ago Tomorrow“ wird diese Lücke nun geschlossen. Ebenfalls erstmals auf Vinyl: die großartige Version vom Hendrix Klassiker „Villanova Junction“. Kompletiert wird die Bonusseite dieser Doppel-LP mit den Single Edits der Tracks „Keep Standing Like A Rock“ und „Windy City“.
