Description
A FEW MONTHS BACK I FOUND A COPY OF THE ELVIS PRESLEY SOUNDTRACK ALBUM FOR HIS 1962 FILM TITLED “GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS”. AND I WAS HAPPILY SURPRISED TO FIND TWO IF THE 1963 ELVIS CALENDARS INSIDE THE JACKET, I AM KEEPING ONE WITH THE RECORD, AND I AM OFFERING THIS OTHER ONE UP, IT IS VERY VERY GOOD CONDITION, NO TEARS, RIPS, MARKS, ETC, ETC. THE EDGES ARE SHARP, NO BENT CORNERS, THE COLOR IS STILL VERY SHARP EVEN AFTER 50 YEARS! THE ONLY MINOR CONDITION ISSUES ARE A SMALL INDENTATION IN THE BOTTOM IN A SEMI-CIRCLE, WHICH IS FROM THE RECORD, SO SORT OF RING WEAR, BUT IT IS NOT VISIBLE LIKE ON AN ALBUM JACKET, BUT VISIBLE WHEN HELD AT AN ANGLE TO THE LIGHT. THE BACK, WHICH IS VERY COOL AND HAS THE LIST OF ELVIS’ “GOLDEN SINGLE RECORDS” AND A LIST OF HIS EP’S. THERE IS SOME VERY LIGHT BROWNISH “AGE SPOTS” NEAR WHERE THE NIPPER LOGO IS . THIS IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, IT WILL MAIL OUT IN A 12” RECORD MAILER, WITH CARDBOARD BACKING AND INSIDE A PLASTIC OUTER SLEEVE TO PROTECT IT.
i decided to sell the second one of these and financially i need the money more than the calendar, the second one has just a fewr of those "age spots" on the back than the first one i sold. this has the same "record shop back" that is pictured above. this is in excellent condition. no reserve, good luck.
ALSO HAD TO INCLUDE A PHOTO OF MY DAD WITH ELVIS AT A 1957 PRESS CONFERENCE IN PORTLAND ,OR. THE DAY HE PERFORMED THERE, MY DAD WAS A DISC JOCKEY AT THE TIME, THE GIRL BETWEEN THEM WON A CONTEST ON MY DAD’S SHOW TO MEET ELVIS. THIS IS ALL DETAILED IN A BOOK BY ALAN HANSON ABOUT ELVIS’ 1957 TOUR, PRIOR TO JOING THE ARMY, A GREAT READ.
AND SORRY BUT NO, THE PIC OF MY DAD IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE CALENDAR.....
HERE’S A BIT MORE ABOUT THE ALBUM/SOUNDTRACK THAT THIS CALENDAR WAS INCLUDED WITH.
Girls! Girls! Girls! is the sixteenth album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor Records in mono and stereo, LPM/LSP 2426, in November 1962. Recording sessions took place at Radio Recorders in Hollywood on March 26, 27, and 28, 1962. It peaked at #3 on the Top Pop Albums chart. It was certified Gold on 8/13/1963 by the R.I.A.A.
Content
As soundtrack album sales far outstripped his regular album sales, Blue Hawaii outselling Pot Luck with Elvis by ten to one, Presley found himself firmly entrenched in songs designed for a light-entertainment formula of beautiful scenery and girls galore. With this discrepancy in sales, the formula of the soundtrack music became the focus.
Sixteen songs were recorded at the sessions in March, of which thirteen were used for the soundtrack album. Banished from the kingdom after running afoul of the Colonel, songs from favored writers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller could only be those already written for someone else, in this case the title track being a hit for The Coasters in 1961 before being adapted for the Presley film. This song and two others, "Return to Sender" and "Because of Love," appear on the 1995 soundtrack compilation.
The tracks "Return to Sender" and "Where Do You Come From" were issued as the both sides of a single in October 1962, one month before the release of the soundtrack LP. "Return to Sender" became a substantial hit for Presley, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the b-side "Where Do You Come From" squeaked in at #99 independently of the hit side.
The Presley fan-club label Follow That Dream released an expanded version of the album in 2007, including alternate takes and songs recorded but not used for the soundtrack. The outtake "Plantation Rock" saw a performance by actor Rob Schneider on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 1996. The songs performed by Stella Stevens in the film - Never Let Me Go, The Nearness Of You and Baby, Baby, Baby - were in fact mimed to the singing voice of Gilda Maiken and have yet to be commercially released.
