ULTRA-RARE  ELVIS  10" ALBUM


This is an opportunity to secure a reasonable copy of a unique 10" LP "Janis and Elvis", issued in South Africa in 1958.  This is what the sleeve note  of the recently reissued CD version has to say about it:

"One of the rarest and most sought-after record releases from the last half-century of Elvis Presley collectables, South Africa's 10" LP Janis and Elvis was issued in 1958 through Teal Records, the company who had the local license to issue RCA records in South Africa at the time. The elusive original LP now commands figures in excess of $5,000."

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL LP,  GUARANTEED GENUINE. 
It features 4 songs apiece from Janis Martin and Elvis - the Elvis selection being drawn from his 3rd and 4th Sun singles recorded in 1955, and the Janis from her 2nd and 4th RCA singles in 1956.

CONDITION:  A decent VG-/VG- (record/sleeve), possibly veering towards VG/VG-.

The record has been much played & shows it.  Both sides have a considerable number of hairlines with the occasional scuff, and Side 2 has an inch and a half scratch which is just surface. Nothing serious, in other words. When played, there is obviously some degree of hiss & crackle - no clicks or jumps or distortion - but it really doesn't affect such wonderful music, unless you're a hi-fi buff! The thick vinyl retains some shine and doesn't have that tired look often seen on 50's records. Yes, a reasonable VG minus I'd say.

The sleeve has a number of faults which can be seen in the photos attached. Wear on all sides, but it's intact. The bottom right edge is torn (about 2") and bent at the corner, and the centre of the bottom rim of the sleeve (below the space between the 2 photos) is torn along about 2". The laminated front & rear of the sleeve still have most of their shine and the flipbacks are well in place. There's a surface scuff (possibly "Tippex" or label remains) defacing the "AND" between "Janis" & "Elvis" and below (see photo), plus a 1" tear at the centre mouth of the sleeve. Above that, and below the record number, are the remains of a sticky label.  A few odd creases, & that's about that.  Please examine the photos carefully, as they illustrate these points.

All in all, a reasonable collectable copy of a very rare record.  You could wait a lifetime for a better one to come along.

I've naturally put a reserve on it, but it really is the barest minimum any collector could expect given its rarity value, so shouldn't put off any serious bidder.

Please note that this record will be mailed in the UK, where I'll be for a couple more weeks. It will be sent Special Delivery or International Signed For (= registered), both formats including insurance up to a certain value. A rough guess is about £5 for within the UK, £8 for the EU and £12 for Worldwide but the exact amount will be established later. Separate insurance is available at the buyer's request, and may well be desirable for an item of such value.
