Label Conditions: All four very clean, fresh and little short of as made. One or two light spindle marks on a couple and I was told by owner, it had only been played once.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 151 / 143 grams. Considerably above the usual black vinyl average. Two thick heavy records, and unlike picture discs, coloured vinyl offers the same top quality, clean sound of the regular black pressings.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity: Heavyweight pressings on yellow vinyl are considerably scarcer than the standard black issue. These were limited and sold out quickly. These two records are also translucent, which means light passes through them which means the vinyl was purer and thus offers better, cleaner sound.

Brief Info: Album number seven and for many (including myself), his very best. Varied songs of the highest quality including his masterpiece ‘Candle in the Wind’, his tribute to Marilyn Monroe. Superbly produced with wonderful sound. This copy includes a lovely, little worn triple gatefold cover and two spectacular yellow records barely run-in in vinyl terms. These superbly pressed on thick pure vinyl and although I am not really a gimmick person, I can certainly see the significance of owning a copy of this on yellow vinyl for more than obvious reasons. A man at the peak of his creativity and few music lovers will not enjoy this evergreen Elton classic.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): a triple gatefold with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Robor.

Cover Front: Clean, fresh and attractive with any surface marks or rim impression few and very faint as seen critically under angled light. With two heavy records inside all these years, few of these will escape ring wear, this front has minimal rim dulling and barely any creasing.

Cover Back: A couple of very small tip creases and faint rim dulling under light. All very similar to front overall.

Other Faces: The other four faces are all superb with little to fault at all – all have lovely artwork with the song lyrics.

Top Edges: All straight with just a couple of tiny surface chips.

Bottom Edges: Any rubbing is small and very light and registers little.

Right Edge(s), and Type: The right back is thick and wide with just a small rub and crease on the top. The two opening edges are clean, sharp with no wear, both are guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: Solid and very thick, straight with no compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. All text perfect and unworn. A small trace of rubbing near the top and one tiny rub-chip on the top fold just below centre, a very fine natural central hairline crease has formed simply by it being opened.

Corners: All crisp and neat with any tip rubbing light, the spine top has a small tip crease from a low-impact dink as seen on the back (reitterate small).

Cover Summary: This is a quite delicate cover and seldom seen devoid of all forms of wear, even sometimes torn. This being a very strong all-round example and one that could prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: NEAR EXCELLENT: two plain white open unlined inners have some creasing and crinkle but little else to fault that apart. All edges unsplit with no repairs, still clean and all the window circles crisp and undamaged.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual pair that are very clean, shiny and heavily pressed on very eye-catching translucent yellow vinyl. A pair with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks few and light as seen critically under angled light. Translucent means light will pass through these records. Visually a super pair that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play even above their high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. This set is superb recorded with a wonderful production by Gus Dudgeon, these offer real high fidelity sound for the discerning listener. Any surface sounds hardly even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this rarer coloured edition I feel sure. I am certain both records have been played very lightly and have been generally well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these lovely records. This set will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
