Well, would you look at that. Melbourne's Eddy Current Suppression Ring are back. True to form, the return arrives via record shop appearances, alias-led pub shows and a couple of casually lobbed YouTube tracks that all point towards a record that sounds as if it has been fermenting behind closed doors for quite some time. 'Hard To Be Moved' and 'Swimming Hole' hinted at a darker mood, and the full set follows through. Modern frustration, political unease and everyday disappointment creep through songs such as 'Sabotage', 'Ulterior Motives' and 'Ivory Tower', whilst the band's trademark scrappy momentum remains fully intact. Whether this is their most reflective record or simply their most direct is up for debate. Either way, they've returned with purpose.
