Description
Doo Wop - R&B Vocal Group Harmony 45
by the MANDELLS
Record Label: A. R. C.
Record # 100
Titles: DARLING I;M HOME b/w TURN OUT THE LIGHTS by DON & LEE
Condition: NEW - STORE STOCK and has NEVER BEEN PLAYED. Record is pressed on DARK RED PLASTIC
Darling I’m Home by the Mandells was originally released in 1960 on the Smart record label, and because it did get some notice in some East Coast cities, it was picked up by Chess Records and released on that label in June of 1961. Few copies of those early 1960's pressing have survived and if you wanted to buy one of the original first pressings on Smart, you had better be prepared to spend $400 to $1000 for one (that is if you could find one.) This is a great reissue on the tiny A.R.C. label and , by the way, its a Promo copy too. The record was pressed in very very limited quantities, that virtually no collectors have copies of it. If you want to test this out, call you local "Oldies" store and see if they have ever heard of this record.
This was the first of two releases for the group on the Smart label; the second was:
Because I Love You / I Don't Have You - Smart 325 ;
The Mandells that recorded on Smart/Chess records are in no way related to other groups that went by the name "Mandells."
Members of Group:
Chuck Young – first tenor, lead
Eranious McNeil Murray – bass, baritone, lead, piano
Jimmy Smith– first tenor, second tenor, lead
Mike Silva
Russell (aka "Peesburgh") – second tenor, lead

NOTE: If you were a member of any vocal group who recorded 50's style group harmony (Doo Wop) records in the 50's or early 60‘s, or if you are related to or know or knew any one who sang with such a group, please contact us (Use eBay's "Ask Seller a Question" or "Contact Seller" option) as we would like to help document the membership of as many vocal groups as possible.
==================
This record was pressed in very limited quantities a number of years ago solely for the relatively small Doo Wop collector's Market. Pressings generally did not exceed 500 copies and sometimes were even smaller. With the passing of time (often 38-39 years), the growth in the number of collectors, and the declining number of records available, the value of these records has grown significantly due to the laws of supply and demand. Today, these "reissues" (which were originally intended to make available on a more widespread basis, rare first pressings that had become impossible to find collectors' items) have become very hard to find collectors' items themselves. This may be your last chance to obtain this record at a reasonable price, or at any price at all. As stated above, these records are brand new, dealer or store stock, and have never been played. Sometimes fidelity of recordings may not be up to year 2010 standards, because, it must be remembered, many of these recordings were produced 50-60 years ago, and may have been reproduced from Masters that were not always in pristine condition. Some of the original masters for the original records themselves were produced on what today some might call primitive equipment, in "studios" that could have included a basement, or garage, as well as a professional studio. But, for the true collector that all adds to the magic and honesty of these recordings. In a small number of instances, they may have even been recorded with some surface noise, even though records are brand new. This affects a very limited number of records, and is an accepted part of some of these old recordings. All records are New Dealer or Store Stock and have Never Been played, therefore I cannot tell you anything about surface noise (in the few cases where it exists) or about reversed labels (in the very, very few cases where that occurs.)

Note that if a scan of the item appears in this auction, colors may be slightly off due to the scanning process. In rare instances, there may be a dark blue tint on the scan of the vinyl, and/or white colors may appear yellowed or have a blue tint. For some reason, silver print on a blue background yields a scan that is almost unreadable, but again this only occurs with silver print on a dark blue background such as those on the King or Jubilee labels. In no case is the scan as good as the actual product. Do not use the scan to determine if record is pressed on colored vinyl or if label color is in question. Instead, read the auction description: all records pressed on colored vinyl will be so noted, in the auction description captioned "Condition." In some cases, where we don't have a scan of the actual record on auction, we may substitute another similar looking record, on the same label, only to give you an idea of what the record on auction looks like (e.g., label design, colors.) If you have any questions about the appearance of a record, please ask before bidding.
