Description

Hi there ! Up for auction is a used copy of Donald Byrd's 1960 album "Byrd in Flight" released on Blue Note Records. Catalogue number is BLP 4048. This is a monural pressing. Recorded by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder. Features the "ear" mark and RVG inscribed in the dead wax. Also this is apparently a first pressing featuring the 47 West 63rd NYC address and so called "deep groove." Record is G/G+/VG- depending on how one looks at this item. It does have some surface wear on both sides but it is not really major. The record is by no means a shot LP, it just has some standard wear. Side two has a few more light to moderate scuff marks than side one. This is nice heavy vinyl. Sounds great for a monural pressing. We played this with a Sumiko Pearl cartridge and then we routed the audio through an Adcom two-channel amplifier. Pure listening pleasure... Label is in really good shape. There do not appear to be any spindle marks present here. Overall, this is a pretty good issue. The cover is G-/G. It does show more wear. The cover is not shot, it is just not completely perfect. There are some corner dents. The front of the cover has kind of lost it's gloss... The bottom seam has come apart a bit, it seems that the record has "cut" through the bottom. There is some writing on the back of the cover, twice in blue ball-point pen; was someone's last name. On the back right-hand corner, it is a little bit brown. The spine is in decent shape, it is still readable when shelved. The upper and lower portions of the spine have been flaked away. Yes, it does look like the cover has been thrown around a bit but for what this is and since it is a highly rated album it is still worth picking up. The record will hopefully make up for the lower quality cover. There is no original Blue Note printed inner sleeve for this. Go ahead and check out the photographs for a further visual description.
