This is really a nice first pressing of Deep Purples Machine Head, it is the first original UK pressing with Gramophone Text Rims, Laminated gatefold sleeve and Foldout Lyric insert.
Later pressings do not have Gramophone Text on the rims (they have EMI) and also more importantly the lyric insert is made with paper that has a sheen to it (Sized is the technical term), later issues came with this insert but it is a matt dull paper, watch out for sellers trying to include these later inserts with their original package.
Presented in a Laminated Gatefold picture sleeve printed by Garrod & Lofthouse in April 1972 and includes the original un-split Poly Lined inner Sleeve.
The sleeve is in near mint condition with no tears or writing, I have looked long and hard to find any flaws with the sleeve, there are a few tiny creases in the laminate but other than that it is really nice.
The Inner sleeve is in Excellent condition with no tears, writing (other than the Cat. Number) or seem splits, there is some yellowing at either side but I believe this is caused by the glue used to hold the sleeve together, it is almost not noticeable but it is worth a mention.
The insert as mentioned above is the original with slightly glossy paper, it is complete with no tears, there are some creases however and grades as excellent if you can grade a piece of paper!
The vinyl plays superbly, it lays flat on my deck and produces a powerful and deep sound, there are some very light static noises in-between a couple of the tracks but this fails into insignificance when clarity of the music come in.
There are quite a few spindle traces on the centre of the label suggesting a number of plays, due to the quality of the sound however I would rather have a record that has had 30 careful plays with a good quality needle rather than a record with only a handful of plays with a damaged needle.
As with all records that have not seen a turntable for 30 years the first few plays will always remove any debris that has accumulated in the grooves over the years and this record after just one play sounds Fantastic. Under a 100 watt bulb and held at an angle you can see some extremely light dust marks but under normal light this record looks near mint, this leads me to grade the vinyl as Excellent and has been very well cared for by the original owner.
As always you are welcome to return this record if you feel that it is not graded or described correctly but I will be surprised if you are not happy with the sound quality.
