Alabaster DePlume, born in Manchester and now embedded in London's improvising community, built this record from melodies first shaped with Cy and Lee during the community sessions he ran in North Manchester, where music acted as a shared language when words fell short. Those fragments carry a disarming clarity, their simplicity holding more weight than their modest origins suggest. 'Visit Croatia' opens with a drifting sax line and a soft rhythmic bed, a kind of vibrato-laden murmur that sets the tone. 'Song Of The Foundling' leans into a slower orbit, its motif circling with a quiet, keening pull, while 'The Lucky Ones' folds Danalogue's pulse into the room. On 'Turpentine', everything narrows to near-whisper. What emerges is a suite of pieces that moves by intuition rather than design, subverting expectation not through force but through the gentle insistence of collective attention.
