A word of introduction about myself first of all. My name is James and I’m 44 years old living in the North East of England. I’ve been collecting records for the best part of 30 years now and have amassed a vast amount of music of all genres during that time. Now however, it’s time for a bit of clear out. I’m not selling all of my collection but there are some titles I have duplicate copies of and others that I just can’t find time to listen to as much as I’d like to so these are the things that will be offered for sale here.

As I’m quite new to E-Bay I’d like to assure you that you have no need to worry about anything when dealing with me. I have been buying and selling records by mail order for over twenty years now and have satisfied customers and trading partners all over the world. At least 3 well known e-bay dealers, (all with 4 figure feedback figures) buy their stock from me regularly and I have had no complaints from any of them in fact all of them regularly grade the records with a higher grade than I gave them!. All records which I offer here are play graded all the way through on top class equipment and any faults I find no matter how small will be mentioned. Sleeves will be graded to the same exacting standards with any faults or anything else I think you need to know mentioned. Any disputes will be settled to your satisfaction and I will give a full refund to anyone who buys anything and isn’t one hundred per cent happy with their purchase (although this obviously applies to condition only - I can’t guarantee that you’ll like the music!).

Davy Graham’s influence on the UK folk scene in the sixties has been well documented and without him a lot of the folk rock albums which are now prized collectors items may well have not been recorded. The list of guitar players influenced by him is way too long to include here but really it’s not just musically that he was such an icon to so many, it was his whole lifestyle. At a time when many people would consider a trip to London an adventure he would think nothing of going to Morocco or India for a few months and on return incorporate the influences of those countries in his music. That’s where for me his real influence lies, in incorporating world music rhythms and instruments with traditional folk and blues tunes at a time when no-one else had even considered doing such a thing. It’s this sort of attitude and of course the wonderful guitar playing which makes his records so highly prized thirty odd years on.

This is his fifth album (not the 3rd as it says in the sleeve notes!) and consists of the usual mix of folk and blues tunes combined with some Moroccan, Arabic, Indian and even some jazzy tunes. The cover of “Both Sides Now” is about as far away from Joni Mitchell’s version as it’s possible to get and still be recording the same song.

Original Sleeve Notes: “This is Davy Graham's third adventure on an LP …and along roads that are folk, blues, jazz, Arabic, Indian-and one or two more things. Travelling with a guitar and also Danny Thompson, bass Jon Hiseman, drums, Harold McNair, flutes, and Dick Heckstall-Smtih, saxophones. Travelling like Baudelaire's travellers; 'who move simply to move'.

The man himself is equally at home in Edinburgh ('a stately city'); Glasgow ('such warm acid'); or in Athens ('gold and purple in the evening. Smooth as marble hollow solid eyes of panthers. So exhausting for strangers.') But he is never at home in any one place for very long. And this seems to be in exact parallel with his music. For he cannot be pigeonholed: fortunately. He is a life-member on the roundabout of alteration. Like his deep-down blues, and you have to accept his setting of a 1000 year old Romeo and Juliet story. Go with him on a musical flight to Morocco ('Jenra' : pavilion'd in splendour) and the return journey will be via an extended raga. But always-I should add-in the company of originality. For after introducing North African music to Western guitar, he has now done the same for India. It's a bit like Dr Bannister running his 4-minute mile and then going off in search of another distance. All of which is quiet disparate, but also very thorough and exciting and satisfying.

In the past few years Davy has played his folk at the Edinburgh Festival, his jazz in some of the best clubs in London, his Arabic interpretations in Tangier and his ragas to people who know Ravi Shankar's records. (Unlike those who have gone to India for a 3-week Sitar course, he has investigated the form of ragas.) So far nobody who has listened has found his music a disappointment. And certainly not the many who have brought his two previous LPs.

Following this later collection I know have no idea where his next stop will be. He might take a bicycle to Mexico or slip inside a carrier pigeon's message to Senegal. Or it could be Canterbury. At least I know it will be fascination though as his producer of records, apart from supervising the sessions, I have found myself becoming more and more an editor of the ideas, which zoom out from him like flying saucers, with there origins just as mysterious. He will sometimes break off in the middle of a 'take' that another guitarist might become a Faust for, to tell me about three points of recording and it is preserved there for everyone to buy-he rarely performs it before an audience again. "I have to avoid the cliché," he says. "I want to keep them on the move…"
Well on behalf of those of us who have done our best to keep up with him. I hope he does.”

Condition: Sleeve is in nice shape, there are no tears are writing anywhere and the only creases are a couple of very minor lamination creases coming in from the spine - really minor stuff. The seams and spine are all unworn and the spine has all of the writing clearly readable. The rear is unlaminated and generally clean and in good condition although there are a couple of small dirty ,marks on the white bits but this is being very critical - on the whole I’m happy to grade it as EX and I’m sure no-one will be disappointed with that grade.

The record itself is in equally nice shape. I held this under a harsh light before playing and there are really no marks worth mentioning other than the occasional hairline mark which has been caused by taking the record in and out of the sleeve but these are few and far between and really harmless anyway. Record is very clean and plays pretty much perfectly, it’s virtually silent between tracks and the only fault I could hear when I played it was two clicks on “Tristano”

All in all a nice copy of an album which is always very popular whenever I have a copy for sale.
