DRY ICE "MR SAWYERS SOUND MIND" (AMERICAN SOUND) 1998   WHITE VINYL VERSION HERE
LOVELY ISSUE OF NOW RARE RELEASE   #78 HERE
CVR IS M-  DISC IS M-  W INSERT
The album is very rooted in the times from which it rose, with an uncommonly lengthy recording lasting from 1967 to 1969, relaying a rather catchy selection of garage-psych songs, with understated shimmering yet restrained guitars, thoughtful well developed harmonies and arrangements, including two Beatle covers, and a disposition of the song “Mary Is Alone,” which gets longer and more complex with each of the three renditions that divide the album into thirds ... instantly bringing to mind the work of Arthur Lee and his band Love. I’d be remiss at this point if I didn’t mention “Eyesight To the Blind,” a Sonny Boy Williams song that in one breath is a cover, and yet is not, being that this rendition is not a bluesy rock version, but rather an airy lysergic bit of enlightenment that will have you holding your breath, being afraid that if you even exhale, you’ll surely miss something magical ... making this is an important album, part of that synapse connection that could not have happened at any other time in history.

I know I’m being bold here, but I would suggest that you toss out all of the early Sid Barrett Pink Floyd, and replace it, or perhaps interlace it with this intoxicating adventure from Dry Ice ... an album that too few serious music lovers have ever heard of, yet alone examined
